BREAKING: Shae Anderson Commits to Oregon!

The wait is over for the last national superstar in the Class of 2017! Shae Anderson has made her college choice:

Nearly every member of the Class of 2017 has already made their college choice known, but Shae has been waiting - and for a very good reason. Her family's choice to home school during her sophomore and junior years, as she focused on developing as a heptathlete, limited her opportunities to make a name for herself. Even her winter times, while impressive, didn't indicate what was to come this spring. Anderson really broke through in March with a 23.96/53.10 double at the Cougar Classic, followed by 11.93 & 41.38 the very next weekend at Redondo. By that time, though, most NCAA Division I programs were deep into their recruiting cycle, having already signed some athletes in the early period and having offered scholarships to many others. Due to her late emergence, Shae had to wait to see which programs would still have money to offer, and she had to shoehorn her official visits into a crowded outdoor track schedule. To her credit, Anderson wanted to take enough time to make the right decision and not distract from her immediate performance goals, even though it must have been agonizing to wait so long. Shae talked about the long process in her interview after winning the 400 and the 300 Hurdles at the Southern Section Division Finals:

Congratulations to Shae, whose ascendance has been one of the most engaging stories I've covered in my career with MileSplit! She is a humble, hard-working young superstar, and I know I speak for the whole track community when I say I can't wait to see what's next!
