On more MS Minute celebrating the absolutely AWESOME CA Winter Championships before we put it to bed until '24. Thanks to all the athletes for the cool promos. In this highlight video, we have added still images by MileSplit photographers Josh Barber and Raymond Tran, and included PA announcers Matt Farmer and Mark Gardner, whose race calls add so much depth of value to the overall experience.
Coverage
In this edition of the MileSplit Minute, we focus on returning CIF-State triple jump champion Alyssa Hope of Riverside King (SS) whose junior season also included a runner-up finish at State in the long jump. What are the prospects of her sweeping at State this May? Historically, since the triple was added to the State Meet in 1982, there have been six girls who have swept the horizontal jumps in nine of the 39 State Meets. But the returning competition in both jumps is stellar, including returning State long jump champion Sydnie Vanek of Clovis (CS). So no easy road for Alyssa to sweep, but it should be an absolute treat watching the girls horizontal jump competition play out over the course of the 2023 outdoor season.
Congratulations to Xai Ricks of Long Beach Poly (SS), the MileSplitCA Boys T&F Athlete of the Winter.
Monte Vista (NC) senior sprint star Cate Peters provides the introduction to this edition of the MileSplit Minute and she is the topic of this segment. We touch on the future Stanford Cardinal, her fast time indoors in Albuquerque, how her spectacular junior season was interrupted, and a major goal of Cate's for her senior season. Thank you Cate for helping out the MileSplit Minute and best to you this outdoor season!
In this edition of the MileSplit Minute (or so ... ), we thank the Menlo School (Menlo Track Club) boys 4x800-meter relay team for the cool intro coming off a meet record performance at the CA Winter Track and Field Championships. Jeff touches on where Menlo projects in the state among 4x8 teams based on the report Mark Gardner posted last month.
In this edition of the MileSplit Minute, we look at Samira Kennedy's winning time in the 600-meter run at the CA Winter Championships, how that time compares with the previous six winners, and if there's history that it translates into success in May at the CIF-State Meet.
Congratulations to Marjourie Lopez of Shadow Hills (SS), last week's top vote-getter for MileSplit Girls TF Athlete of the Week. Who's next?
