CIF State Meet Day 1 Highlights

Things We Will Miss On Day 2

First and foremost, I'm so upset that two of the country's best 4x100 teams won't be racing on Saturday. The Calabasas girls, #2 in the state and #18 in the nation, weren't able to get the baton all the way around the track. It's small consolation, but at least they're all sophomores, and have another two years to make better memories. The Rancho Verde boys did get the baton around, but exchanged late on their final handoff. As a result, the state leaders and 5th-best team in the nation won't get a chance to finish off a great season today. That deals a blow to the Mustangs chances of winning a team title, but not a mortal one; they still have enough firepower to bring home the championship. And while we're on the subject of relays, we'll miss seeing Eleanor Roosevelt in the girls 4x400. The Mustangs were the state leaders coming into the meet, but struggled to 11th place in Friday's prelim.

We'll also be missing Aaliyah Wilson (Stockdale) in the 100 Hurdles, where she was CA #4 coming into the meet. She had a rough fall in her prelim heat, and we can only hope that she is OK and still able to compete in the 100 Dash, where she advanced with an 11.75.
