Weekend 1 Rundown: Bissell Leads Loyola, Ramos Blazes Over 2 MIles

Fastback Shootout Recap

Looks like Kevin Ramos is ready for 2017! The Rubidoux junior blasted a 9:17.8 for 2 miles, outpacing JSerra's Anthony Grover by 11 seconds in the 11th-grade race. Those were the two best times of the meet, as Britain Reynolds (Valencia) won the senior race in 9:32.10. For the girls, it was Emily Virtue (Burroughs Burbank) posting the top mark with a time of 11:02.1 in the junior race, while Akemi Von Scherr (La Quinta) clocked 11:09.3 in the sophomore event. It's a shame those two couldn't race each other this weekend, but both performances give us something to look forward to this fall! It's especially great to see Virtue looking like she's back in top form again, because she is a contender at the state level when healthy.

In merged team results (see the link below), it was the Westlake girls that turned my head the most: powered by strong groups of 10th- and 11th-graders, the Warriors outscored solid Valencia, JSerra, and Esperanza teams. We'll have to add Westlake to our Flo50 Team Rankings watch list! Burroughs had the best combined score on the boys' side with 88 points, just ahead of JSerra (94) and Valencia (102).
