Weekend 1 Rundown: Bissell Leads Loyola, Ramos Blazes Over 2 MIles

Great Cow Run Recap

Loyola's boys looked extremely impressive in their opener, putting four runners in the top 10 of the merged Varsity results to score a measly 31 points (the Cubs totaled 19 in separate scoring for the Large Schools division). Shane Bissell led the way for Loyola, running 15:01.3 on the fast 3 Mile course to defeat Trevor Woodward (Centennial Corona) and post the top time of the day. Loyola also swept the top 5 places in the JV race, showing how deep their program truly is. California had a solid team performance in their opener a season after graduating a large group of seniors. Individually, Zach Arias (Ayala) also looked good as the only boy other than Bissell to break 15:10.

There was no dominant team performance among the girls' varsity races, but there was quite an impressive individual one: Mikaela Ramirez (Ayala) clocked 17:25.8, more than 20 seconds faster than the next-best runner on the day, Centennial Corona's Rylee Penn. California's girls earned the overall win with 82 points in the merged results, outpacing Fountain Valley by a solid margin (the score was 48-68 in separate Large Schools race scoring).
