This highlights clip of girls distance events from Saturday's CIF-Southern Section all-division finals at El Camino College, shows Saugus senior Mariah Castillo, who put down one of the great doubles in meet history, winning the 1600 in 4:43.73 and the 3200 in 10:06.47. Castillo, already the US leader in the 1600, ran the No. 5 time in the US in the 3200 with Capistrano Valley's Haley Herberg right behind in 10:09.54, No. 7 in the US. The clip also shows Village Christian freshman Mia Barnett, finishing in 10:27.82. That is the No. 1 time in the 3200 by freshman in the US. The clip also samples the Great Oak distance team that had four girls score in both the 1600 and 3200 and all advanced to CIF-SS Masters.
This video clip samples some of the top performances among the girls sprinters and hurdlers at the CIF-Southern Section all-division finals. Included is Santa Margarita's Nikki Merritt, winner of three individual events, including both hurdles races; Ariyonna Augustine of Long Beach Poly, the defending CIF-State champion in the 100 and 200; Jada Hicks of Upland leading a deep field in the 100 hurdles; and perennial 400-meter champion Maliyah Medley of El Toro.
Trabuco Hills senior Sean Lee cleared a CIF-Southern Section Division Championships record of 7-02.50 to win the high jump competition for the fourth consecutive season. Lee, who is tied for the US lead with a best of 7-3, made three attempts at what would have been a CA record 7-04.75.
