Jaxon Northcutt's Record-Breaking 13:55

The entire cross country meet led to the boys' 3-mile invitational, where everyone focused on how fast Jaxon Northcutt could run. Last year, he was seconds off the course record as a junior and used this performance to become one of the top returners in California.

At the start of the race, Northcutt bolted to the lead, closely followed by brave Yohan Anderson. However, a quick first mile of about 4:36 (according to the MileSplit race video) and an official 1.5-mile split of 6:47 gapped the entire field. At the 2.25-mile mark, he had a 37-second lead on the field that only grew. 

Once Nortcutt stepped onto the track for the final 150 meters, everyone knew Kenan Pala's course record of 14:11 was gone. It was now a matter of how far under 13 minutes he'd go.

He crossed the line at 13:55.4 to shatter the course record and secure the U.S. No.1 spot in the nation for three miles. After the race, Northcut said he was proud to finally break the 14-minute barrier and wants the nation to know he's ready to fight. 

The San Clemente duo of Mattheus Dos Santos (14:35) and Yohan Anderson (14:36) crossed the finish line 40 seconds after Northcutt, completing the podium. Luca Persichetti from International School of LA (14:36) and Carlos Sanchez (14:37) from Vista also set personal records to round out the top five.

Grace Keefe's Remarkable Rise to the Top

Before the heroics we saw from Jaxon Northcutt, the girls' race offered an exciting battle decided in the final seconds. Throughout the entire race, Grace Keefe, Riley Biddle, Sophia Haslhofer, and Harper Diaz were separated by less than a second, with a huge gap on the rest of the field. 

In the final 800m, Keefe and Biddle split up the four to deliver the most thrilling finish of the day. Grace Keefe's 1600m speed overtook Biddle in the final steps to take the victory and complete an amazing ascent to elite status. In the past three seasons, Keefe has opened her season at the CCA Ravens XC Invitational with huge personal records.

This epic battle helped rewrite the meet's all-time top 10 list, starting with Keefe claiming the 4th spot at 16:51.90 and Riley Biddle in the 5th spot at 16:52.30. Sophia Haslhofer is 6th all-time at 16:57.00, and Harper Diaz is 8th all-time at 17:05.10. 

Torrey Pines Boys Enter the Chat

Unlike the girls' team race, the boys' race came down to 11 points between Torrey Pines and the defending champions San Clemente. 

Torrey Pines was able to pull out a huge victory with major assistance from William Boag, who finished 11th overall to run 14:50. The rest of the team followed closely behind to flex a scoring gap of 50 seconds. 

This is a major win for a Torrey Pines team that missed the CIF State XC Championships last season. While Boang is becoming a reliable low-stick, their #4 and #5 runners are dropping by over 45 seconds. Torrey Pines is emerging as an early-season favorite to win the Division 1 CIF-SDS title.
