California high school track and field athletes posted several personal records during competition from April 27-30.
Samantha Spicer (Chino Hills) won the high jump at the Baseline League Championships with a clearance of 5-2, improving from her previous best of 4-9.75. The sophomore now ranks #12 among sophomores statewide.
William Gant (Twelve Bridges) clocked 21.81 in the 200 meters at the FVL Trials and Finals on April 28, breaking the school record and improving from his previous personal record of 22.83 set earlier in April. The senior won the event and ranks #116 in the state.
Kelen Lopes (Lemoore) ran 14.47 in the 110-meter hurdles at the Lemoore/Mission Oak meet on April 29, dropping from his previous best of 15.29. The senior won the three-person field and ranks #29 in California and #20 among seniors.
Shaylee Torres (Ventura) cleared 11-0 in the pole vault to win the Channel League Track & Field Finals on April 30. The senior improved from her previous record of 10-4 set in April and now ranks #40 statewide and #16 among seniors.
Saniah Varnado (Wilson Long Beach) finished second in the 400 meters at the Moore League Finals with a time of 53.19, improving from 54.88. The mark places her #2 in California among all athletes.
Cayden Bell (Silverado) placed second in the 110-meter hurdles at the Desert Sky League Finals with a time of 15.03, improving from 15.71. He ranks #93 in the state among all competitors.
Sam Alderman (Sonora) won the shot put at the Ripon meet with a throw of 49-5, improving from his previous best of 44-0.5. He ranks #137 in California among all throwers.
