Each year, the Cool Breeze Invitational produces incredible performances at the Pomona Fairplex, and this year was no different. Even with a few changes to the 3-mile course, the early-season cross country meet produced several personal records.
Alexander Gomez of Montebello HS made the most significant leap from last season, with an over 6-minute improvement. The senior finished 203rd in the Large School Boys' varsity race with a finishing time of 19:41.70. He also helped Montebello finish 15th overall as a team, which got their season off to a strong start.
The fastest improving runner from Cool Breeze was Jace Deledonne, who ran 14:20 to win the Boys Sundown Showdown race. Last year, Deledonne finished in sixth place, but a 31-second improvement propelled him to the top of the mountain. The Riverside Poly senior is no stranger to the fast times, but getting the win at a big invitational makes a big difference for Deledonne.
