Congratulations to Ventura (SS) sophomore Sadie Engelhardt, the fan poll voting favorite as the top girls performer at the 2023 CIF-State Track and Field Championships.
Sadie, a sophomore, became just the second girl in State Meet history to win both the 800m and 1600m in the same meet, while also running a meet record 4:33.45 to defend her 1600m title, improving on her U.S. No. 1 time. In the 800m, she used a late sprint down the homestretch to finish in 2:07.22, holding off returning champion Mackenzie Browne of J.W. North (SS).
Engelhardt received 39 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Meagan Humphries, a junior at Castaic (SS), received 24 percent of the vote, and Hannah Riggins, a senior at Del Norte (SD), received 15 percent.
