Skyline swept the team titles at the CIF-Oakland Section track and field championships after two days of competition at Laney College.
Skyline's boys put up 21.3.5 points to best Oakland Tech (146), and the Skyline girls posted 226 points with Oakland Tech second (124).
In both, Skyline's overall depth across the 17 events made the difference. Oakland Tech dominated the sprints on both sides but Skyline played catch-up in the distances, the field events, and placed either first or second in five of the six relays.
Skyline's dominance was evident in the jumps, where most of the other teams in the section were unable to qualify athletes in events other than the long jump. Junior Safir Bey and sophomore Eliza Ayres are the exceptions, both winning long jump titles for Oakland Tech.
Leading the way for the Skyline boys was senior distance standout Andy Ixtabalan Argueta who won the 800m in 2:00.66 as part of a 1-3 finish, and defended his title in the 3200m in 9:52.53 as Skyline took four of the top five places.
Junior Lantz Fuller was busy, winning the high jump (5-4), defended his title in the pole vault (10-6), running a leg on the winning 4x400m relay team, and placing second in the 800m (2:12.49). As was sophomore Christopher Carr, who pulled sprint points in for Skyline as the runner-up in both the 100m (11.95) and 200m (24.07), ran on the runner-up 4x100m relay team (46.55) as well as the winning 4x400m relay team (3:44.10).
Senior DeOnte Johnson won the triple jump (36-11/1.5) and placed second to Bey (19-09/0.0) in the long jump (18-02.50).
Oakland Tech was strong in the sprints led by senior Keith Jeung, who swept the 100m (11.68/ -0.9) and 200m (23.97/1.4) titles and and helped the 4x100m relay team to a win in 45.51.
Oakland Tech pulled in some distance points from junior Alexi Leduc, who won the 1600m (4:32.68) and placed second in the 3200m (10:11.61). And senior Amare Brown won the 300m hurdles in 42.68 and placed second in the 110mH (16.08/-0.7). Bey (15.93).
Oakland High sophomore Walter Jones won the 400m (55.13) and placed fourth in the 200m (24.66).
Madison Park junior Luis Guzman won the discus throw (117-04) and placed second in the shot put (35-04) behind Castlemont senior Simote Samate (42-00.50).
On the girls side, Skyline's distance crew came through for the win in the 4x400m relay (4:49.44) as well as claiming the section's only State Meet spot in the 4x800 relay (13:41.66).
Additionally, junior Jessica Vogel placed second in the 800 (2:40.47) and sophomore Kaitlyn Forde was the 3200m runner-up in 13:45.47.
Skyline freshman Intrigue Jackson won the 300m hurdles (1:00.70) and placed second in the 100mH (21.62). Junior Mikaela Branner won the high jump (4-8) and placed second in the triple jump (25-01 (2.7).
Junior Anna Klein added points for Skyline in the throws, winning the discus (76-02) and placing second in the shot (24-10.50). And sophomore Laurvee Howard pulled in points with a win in the pole vault (5-6).
Ayres led Oakland Tech, winning the long jump and 100m hurdles (15.28/0.9), earning a second consecutive trip to the State Meet in both events.
Oakland Tech took the top spots in the sprints as seniors Jala Williams and Inelaboh Ajayi went 1-2 in the 100m for the second consecutive year. Williams won in 12.53 (0.9) with Ajayi next in 12.60. Ajayi defended her title in the 200m in 26.32 (-0.2) with junior teammate Daisy Fountaine next in 27.87.
It was Jada Williams defending her title in the 400m in 1:02.14 with Skyline sophomore Komogodje Bagayoko next in 1:04.65.
The Oakland Tech sprint crew was an easy winner in the 4x100m relay (48.84)
Castlemont senior Roselin Saavedra-Silva won the 800m (2:40.28) and placed second in the 1600m (6:02.36) behind Skyline junior Karina Larrieta Ceron, who won both the 1600 (5:54.60 and 3200m (13:0.16), a race where Skyline went 1-4.
