POLL Girls Track and Field Performer of the Week


Congratulations to Alyssa Hope of Riverside ML King HS (SS), last week's top vote-getter for MileSplit Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Week.


Alyssa, a senior, swept the horizontal jumps at the Mt. SAC Relays, winning the long jump with a best of 19-5 (1.3) and the triple jump at 39-9.75 (1.9). Here triple jump mark ranks U.S. No. 3 wind-legal.

Alyssa received 60 percent of the vote in a statewide pole. Adonijah Currie, a senior at Quartz Hill (SS), was second with 11 percent of the vote. 

Congratulations to all athletes whose performances warrant consideration in this weekly poll. And thanks to everyone who voted to support these amazing athletes.

Ashlyn Boothby (Scotts Valley/CC) - Ashlyn, a junior, swept the 800m and 1600m at the CCS Top 8 meet at Los Gatos HS. Her winning 800m time of 2:12.89 is her third sub-2:13 in as many races this season and her winning 4:50.19 time was just off her 4:49.29 PR.

Anisa Bowen-Fontenot (San Diego/SD) - Anisa, a sophomore, ran the second-fastest all-conditions 100m hurdles time of the season with a 14.01 (3.0) to win at the Dick Wilkins Frosh-Soph Championships at Del Norte HS in SD. Her time ranks U.S. No. 6 in the class. She also ran a 12.38 PR to win the 100m and placed second in the 300m hurdles (44.35).

Kaylin Edwards (Wilson - Long Beach/SS) - Kaylin, a sophomore, swept the hurdles and also ran on two winning relay teams as the Bruins girls dominated the action at the Oregon Relays. Edwards won the 100m hurdles in 14.46 (-0.1), which ranks tied for CA No. 9, the 300mH  in 43.38, and was apart of winning quartets in the 4x100 (46.78, CA No. 3), and 4x400 (3:50.78) relays.

Nailea Fields (Caruthers/CS) - Nailea, a senior, and the defending CIF-State champion in the discus throw, unleashed a 156-3 PR to win the event at the Sanger Metric Classic at Dodson Field in Sanger. Her discus throw ranks CA No. 2, and she also won the shot put (38-8.25). 

Y'Vette Harris (Lincoln-Stockton/SJ) - Y'Vette, a senior, swept the hurdles at the Sacramento Meet of Championsfor the second year in a row, running a CA-leading 42.15 in the 300m hurdles and 14.03 to win the 100mH. She had previously led the state in the 100mH and now leads in both.  

Grace Hutchison (Buchanan/CS) - Grace, a senior, set a meet and stadium record in the 1600m of 4:49.16 - here third sub-4:50 this season - and she joined her sophomore sister Avery, sophomore Ellie Dimitrashchuk, and freshman Lily Olsen on the winning 4x800m relay team (9:36.27).

Ellie McCuskey-Hay (St. Ignatius/CC) - Ellie, a freshman, walked away with four medals from the CCS Top 8 meet at Los Gatos HS. She won the 100m in 11.86 (1.2), just .05 off her PR, won the long jump in a PR of 18-9.50 (CA No. 10 for all conditions), placed second in the 200m at 24.89 (.0.8), just .25 off her PR, and helped the 4x100m relay team to a 48.93 runner-up performance. 

Hanne Thomsen (Montgomery/NC) - Hanne, a sophomore swept the 800m and 1600m at the Viking Track Classic, running on her home track in Santa Rosa. Her 800m time of 2:12.47 is a PR and meet record.
