POLL Girls Track and Field Performer of the Week


Congratulations to Alyssa Alumbres of Vista Murrieta (SS) last week's top vote-getter for MileSplit Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Week.


Alyssa, a junior, moved into the No. 2 spot in the state and U.S. No. 19 (at the time) for all-conditions long jump with a 19-4.50 event-winning effort at the Saddle-Up Invitational at Vista Murrieta HS.

Alyssa received 65 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Sadie Engelhardt, a sophomore at Ventura (SS), and Hanne Thomsen, a sophomore at Montgomery (NC), each received 12 percent of the vote.

Congratulations to all athletes whose performances warrant consideration in this weekly poll. And thanks to everyone who voted to support these amazing athletes.

This week's candidates (listed alphabetically by last name)


Ashlyn Boothby (Scotts Valley/CC) - Ashlyn, a junior, swept the 1600m and 3200m elite "Sombrero" races at the Dublin Distance Fiesta, winning the 1600 in a 4:49.29 PR, and the 3200m in 10:26.12. Both times rank CA No. 2 this season.

Ashanti Elie (Whitney/SJ) - Ashanti, a senior, equalled her CA-best high jump with her second 5-8 clearance of the month, to win at Gateway to Track and Field Invitational at Buchanan HS.

Keilee Hall (Christian Brothers/SJ) - Keilee, a senior, an a CA-leading 300-meter hurdles time of 43.99 at the Ron Ruptier Invitational at Ponderosa HS in Shingle Springs. She also won the 400 in 58.45 and the 100m hurdles in a 14.57 (-0.8) PR. 

Cate Peters (Monte Vista/NC) - Cate, a senior, won the 800-meter elite "Sombrero" race at the Dublin Distance Fiesta for the third time, running 2:11.04, the No. 2 time in the state this season.

Hannah Riggins (Del Norte/SD) - Hannah, a senior, dropped a U.S. No. 2 800-mter time of 2:08.60 at the Falcon Relays at Torrey Pines HS, eclipsing her previous PR of 2:11.60 set at the same meet a year ago.

Amirah Shaheed (Madison/SD) - Amirah, a junior, took over the all-conditions CA lead in the 100-meters with an 11.787 clocking at the Elmer Runge Invitational at Patrick Henry HS. Shhe also ran a season-best all-conditions 200m of 24.89. 

Joelle Trepagnier (Culver City/SS) - Joelle, a sophomore, ran a CA-leading 400-meter time of 54.29 PR at the California Relays at Long Beach Wilson HS. It is her first sub-55 in the event.
