POLL Boys Track and Field Performer of the Week

Congratulations to Zachary Blum of Beckman (SS) last week's top vote-getter for MileSplit Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

Zachary, a senior, won the 3200m at the TrackRabbit Invitational with an early-season CA best of 9:20.39 PR (U.S. No. 10 at the time of last week's posting) at Long Beach Poly HS.

Zachary received 66 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Ethan Fong, a senior at Lincoln-Stockton (SJ)was second in the voting at 25 percent.

Congratulations to all athletes whose performances warrant consideration in this weekly poll. And thanks to everyone who voted to support these amazing athletes.

This week, we have a deep sampling of the outdoor season performances that shuffled the majority of the state's leaderboards. No easy choices for our seven on the line this week.

Anthony Fasthorse (Ventura/SS) - Anthony a junior, overcame mid-40s temperatures late Friday night to run a CA-leading 9:06.08 for 3200 meters at the Don Green Memorial Invitational at Moorpark HS. That race produced the U.S. Nos. 5-6-7 and 13 times. 

Carson Hedlund (Pioneer/CC) - Carson, a sophomore, swept the 800m (1:56.38) and the 1600m (4:23.65) at the K-Bell Classic at Westmont HS in Campbell. 

Ben Kin Ho Tsang (Independence/CC) - Ben, a senior, opened his outdoor season by running a CA No. 3-equalling time to win the 110m hurdles (14.58/1.0), at the K-Bell Classic at Westmont HS in Campbell.

Adam Laycock (Westlake/SS) - Adam, a senior, unleashed a CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 7 discus throw of 175-3, defending his title at the Don Green Memorial Invitational at Moorpark HS. He also won the meet's FS title as a sophomore in 2021.

Adren Parker (Helix/SD) - Adren, a senior, ran a CA-leading and U.S. No. 12 time  of 47.78 for 400 meters at the Mustang Roundup at Trabuco Hills HS. Parker is the San Diego Section record-holder in this event.

Noah Ray (Buchanan/CS) - Noah, a senior, ran a CA No. 3 and U.S. No. 8-equalling time of 1:53.62 for 800 meters at the Sanger Spring Classic. 

Aaron Sahlman (Newbury Park/SS) - Aaron, a senior, continued to build on his strong early-season resume with a U.S. No. 1 clocking in the 800 meters of 1:50.25 at The Ten showcase held at JSerra HS. 

Leo Young (Newbury Park/SS) - Leo, a senior, transitioned from leading the U.S. U20 cross country team to a world top-three finish, to the outdoor oval and a CA No. 3 all-time clocking for 1500 meters of 3:40.86 at The Ten showcase meet at JSerra HS. That is the No. 10 performance and Young is the No. 6 performer all-time in U.S. high school history.
