Congratulations to Reign Redmond of Carson (LA) the top vote-getter for MileSplit Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Winter.
Reign, a senior and the CIF-State defending champion in the 100-meter dash, swept the short sprints at the CA Winter Championships, setting meet records in both the 60m dash (7.38) and 150m (17.69). Her time in the 60m is 0.12 faster than the previous record, and her 150 time is 0.42 faster than the previous meet standard. Earlier this winter she warmed up by sweeping both short sprints at the Redondo WCQ going 7.60 for 60m and 17.02 for 150m. Compared nationally with times mostly achieved indoors, Reign's 60m ranks U.S. No. 6.
Reign received an overwhelming 66 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Alyssa Hope, a senior at King (SS), was second in the voting at 13 percent.
Congratulations to all athletes who crushed the winter season with performances that warranted consideration in polls over the last six weeks. And thanks to everyone who voted to support these amazing athletes.
