Congratulations to last week's top vote-getter, Evan Markelz of Mountain View (CC)!!
Markelz, a senior, won the ECL title, running 14:51.10 on the 2.95-mile course at Crystal Springs.
Markelz received 43 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Micah Sanchez of Liberty Christian (SD) was second in the voting with 39 percent of votes.
This week we are putting eight top cross country performers on the line for you to choose the overall CA XC Runner of the Week. Our objective each week will be to select top performers from across the state.

This week's candidates (listed alphabetically by last name)
Henry Baun (Yreka/NS) - Henry, a junior, was the fastest boy at the Northern Section Finals, running 16:05.93 on the 3-mile course at West Valley HS in Cottonwood to win the Division 4 individual title and helping his team earn a State Meet berth.
Max Fields (Palisades/LA) - Max, a junior, was the fastest boy at the Los Angeles City Section Prelims, running 15:51.20 on the 3-mile course at Pierce College in Woodland Hills.
Broen Holman (Sonora/SJ) - Broen, a sophomore, ran the fastest time of the meet at the Sac-Joaquin Section finals. Holman, who shared the title with a senior teammate a year ago, ran 15:32.70 -- 8.5 seconds faster than in '21 -- to win the Division 4 title on the 5K course at Willow Hills Reservoir in Folsom.
Grant Morgenfeld (Palo Alto/CC) - Grant, a junior, was the fastest boy at the Central Coast Section finals, running 14:54.10 to win the Division 2 tirle on the 2.95-mile Crystal Springs course in Belmont.
Micah Sanchez (Liberty Charter/SD) - Micah, a senior, ran the fastest time of the meet in winning the Division 5 title at the San Diego Section Finals. Sanchez ran the 3-mile Morley Field course in 15:08.60 in leading his team to the title.
Nathan Short (Folsom/SJ) - Nathan, a senior, won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 title by less than a second, running 15:35.80 on the 5K Willow Hills Reservoir course in Folsom.
Ryan Thomas (Torrey Pines/SD) - Ryan, a senior, rolled to victory in the Division 1 race at the San Diego Section Finals, running 15:08.90 on the 3-mile Morley Field course in leading his team to the title.
Leo Young & Lex Young (Newbury Park/SS) - The Young twins are seniors who shared the fastest time at the Southern Section Prelims, running identical 14:56.7 times on the 3-mile course at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
