'22 CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW - Northern Section

GIRLS

Seniors took up four of the top five places at the Northern Section Final last November, with only Pleasant Valley senior Chloe Alchin, who placed fourth, scheduled to return among that top five.

Girls team champion Chico graduated five of its top seven with only rising seniors Dot Clemente and Tori Mackay scheduled to return. But, as with the boys, if the open 2.x-mile race is any indication of the future, Chico should be just fine with six of the top 21. That group includes three of the top six led by race winner Claire Edwards, a junior, and rising sophomores Lillian Jeffords and Shrawani Thapa

Pleasant Valley also had six of the top 20 including three of the top 10 in sophomores Madeline Swim, who placed fourth, and Aryah Berkowitz, and senior Abigail Biziak.

Among other returners from the varsity final, Paris Esther of Orland was seventh overall in 20:23.31 to win the Division 4 title as a freshman, and rising senior Jenna Justice of Etna placed 13th overall and won the Division 6 title.

Also scoring for Chico was senior Una Griffith, who was fifth overall in 19:40.61, junior Dot Clemente, 12th in 21:02.33, and senior Tori Mackay, who was 15th in 21:24.15.
