'22 CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW - Northern Section

The top returner in the section of Henry Baun, a junior at Yreka. Baun placed fourth overall in the NS Finals to win the Division 4 title. Noah Gaido, a sophomore at University Prep, placed eighth in the Northern Final and is the No. 2 returner. He is the defending Division 5 champion. 

Pleasant Valley's returning Division 3 championship lineup includes sophomore Jackson Hein, junior Cavin Muff and junior Brandon Muck. That trio placed 9-10-17 in the NS Final last November. 

The large-school battle between rivals Chico and Pleasant Valley figures to go on for awhile. Pleasant Valley returns Nos. 3-4, 6-7 from the NS Final. Chico graduated its top six from the NS Final, and returns only sophomore Carter Murphy from that lineup. But -- BUT -- in the 2.x "open" race held as part of the Northern Section Finals meet, a race made up of mostly freshmen and sophomores, these two accounted for 15 of the top 20 finishers from those grades. 

Charles Brennen, a rising junior at Chico, was the race winner with Mark Doud, a rising sophomore at Pleasant Valley placing second. The Chico duo of Carson Sasaki and Matt Anderson, both rising juniors, placed 3-4.
