Dalia Frias, a senior at Mira Costa (SS), placed fifth as the top CA girl in a national field of 296 at the Garmin RunningLane Championships, running the 5K course in 16:37.20 on Dec. 4 in Huntsville, AL.

In recognition of her accomplishment, Frias was voted as CA's Girls Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4, receiving 33.12 percent of the vote in a statewide poll. Peninsula (SS) junior Aishling Callanan was second with 31.60 percent of the vote.

This was our final Runner of the Week poll of the 2021 cross country season. Congratulations to all the winners, all the finalists, and everyone who participated in recognizing these amazing athletes by voting.

Previous Winners

11/27 -- Brynn Garcia, a freshman at JSerra (SS), placed 11th among scoring runners in the Division IV race at the CIF-State Championships, running the 5K Woodward Park course in 18:42.90 to lead her team to a 122-131 victory over La Canada (SS) for the team title.

11/20 -- Olivia Williams, a sophomore at Acalanes (NC), won the CIF-North Coast Section Division 4 title in 16:15.2, the fastest time in the merge on the 3-mile Hayward HS course, 18.4 seconds ahead of Albany senior Sophia Nordenholz.

11/13 -- Bella Peretti, a senior at Pioneer (CC), won the CIF-Central Coast Section Division 2 title, running 17:47.8, the fastest time of the meet over the 2.95-mile Crystal Springs course to beat Prospect (CC) freshman Kylie Hoornaert by 17.4 seconds.

11/6 -- Anna McNatt, a junior at McClatchy (SJ), was the fastest girl at the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section qualifier, running the 5K Frogtown course in 17:18.30 to win the Division I race by one minute, 40 seconds while helping her team qualify for the section championship meet.

10/30 -- Tatiana Cornejo, a senior at St. Francis (SJ), ran the 5K William Jessup University course in 17:53.8 to win the Delta League title by 18.8 seconds over senior classmate Cate Joaquin.

10/23 -- Kelli Gaffney, a junior at Great Oak (SS), ran a season-best 17:22, in placing second in the Division 1-2 Team Sweepstakes race at the 73rd Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 23. Her time was the third-fastest of the two-day meet that recorded 3-mile times for 3,461 girls.

10/16 -- Ellie Buckley, a junior at Campolindo (NC), cruised the 5K State Meet course at Woodward Park in Fresno in 17:54.5 to win the varsity girls large school race at the Rough Rider Invitational on Oct. 15. Buckley won by 37 seconds over Highland (CS) sophomore Mia Torrecillas while leading her team to the division title.

10/9 -- Samantha McDonnell, a senior at Newbury Park (SS) and recent Alabama commit, rolled to the title at the 42nd Clovis Invitational, out-sprinting freshman superstar Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura (SS) to the line, crossing in 17:02.1 over the 5K course at Woodward Park.

10/2 -- Peninsula junior Aishling Callanan ran the second-fastest time in the history of the grueling 2-mile Palos Verdes Invitational course (11:28.56) to win the Varsity 1 race by 51 seconds. 

9/25 -- Hannah Riggins, a junior at Del Norte (SD), in what she called her first serious race of the season, rolled to a win at the Dana Hills Invitational, winning the 3-mile challenge by five seconds over Peninsula junior Aishling Callanan in the marquee race. 

9/18 -- Samantha McDonnell, a senior at Newbury Park, placed second in the Sweepstakes race at Woodbridge in 15:54.60, becoming just the fifth girl in meet history to run sub-16 on the 3-mile SilverLakes course (No. 3 all-time) while leading her team to the overall title

9/11 -- Holly Barker, a freshman at Laguna Hills (SS), crushed her home course in 16:59.20 -- the iconic 3-mile Laguna Hills CC Invite course -- breaking the class course record by 41 seconds.

9/4 -- Gabriela Romero, a sophomore at Redlands Citrus Valley (SS), had the best overall time among girls at the Fastback Invitational on the 2-mile course at Mt. SAC.
