Sac-Joaquin Section Schools Battle at Wildfire Invitational




Junior Katie Kopec, senior Kutoven Stevens, freshman Andrew Burr and sophomore Jade Biitner were the varsity race winners at the 12th Foresthill Wildfire Invitational held Saturday on the adjusted 3-mile Old Mill course at Foresthill High School. 

Kopec from Whitney (SJ) was a runaway winner in the girls Division 1-3 (large schools) 5K race, running the course in 18:46 to win by 47 seconds. Her sister Ava, a sophomore, was fourth in 19:53, and sophomore Grace Scott was ninth (20:37).

Sophomore Anna Soares was second while leading Placer to the team title with 48 points.

Senior Constance O'Neal was eighth overall and second across for Placer (20:23), followed by senior Addison Arsenith, who was 10th (20:54), and sophomore Leah Booth, who was 17th (22:02).

Amaya Aramini, a sophomore from Bishop Manogue in Nevada, was third (19:45).

Stevens, from Yerington (NV) High, was the fastest boy at the meet, winning the large school division in 16:20. Placer senior Wyatt Hamilton was second in 16:54. Whitney beat Placer for the team title, 55-63, led by a 7-8-9 finish by a trio of juniors: Cole Jamieson (17:11), Nick Herrmann (17:15), and Mateo Delgadillo (17:17). 

Burr, from Sacramento Country Day (SJ) and one of the state's best in the freshman class, was an eight-second winner over Colfax senior Jacob Kolster (17:24) in the small schools varsity boys race. Senior Garrett Reinhard was third (18:15) in helping Colfax to the team title. Junior Joey Petrilla was sixth (18:54), senior Daniel Buettner was 10th, and senior Garrett Arcand was 16th (20:22) for Colfax.

Biitner won the small schools varsity girls race in 20:23, leading Colfax to 24 points and the team title. Casa Roble (SJ) senior Dakota Gibson was second (20:32) and Foresthill (SJ) junior McKenna Lechner was third (20:40). 

Junior Carlee McCabe was fourth (20:56) and next across for Colfax folled by junior Gabriella Biitner (22:33), freshman Morgan Toner, who was 10th in 23:04, and senior Kara Dierssen, who was 13th in 24:47.
