Mt SAC Preview

MEET PREVIEW by Aron Taylor & Margot Kelly

With 62 years of history, the Mt. SAC Cross Country Course is one of the oldest and most famed courses in the world, challenging generations of runners against each other. Expect top nationally ranked teams and individuals to challenge for championships.

US#16 Elias Gedyon (Jr., Loyola) and US#10 Molly Grabill (Jr., Rancho Bernardo) are just two of our pre-race favorites. Gedyon won the team sweepstakes race last season with a 14:48. The third fastest time of the day, Gedyon is much improved this season. After a 4:08 mile @ Arcadia and 4:07 1600m last season, Gedyon has run an early season 14:26 3-mile and looks to make a national impact at this years sweepstakes race.  Challenging Gedyon will be Camarillo junior Heyden Wooff (US #9).  Wooff sits at the top of the Milesplit California leader board with a 14:08 three mile.  He is also undefeated this cross country season.

Molly Grabill (photo far left), the two-time defending Stanford Invitational winner heads to Mt SAC looking to improve upon her third place finish from a year ago. Gone are Hasay and Dunne but Xavier Prep senior and three time Foot Locker finalist Jessica Tonn (US#3, in photo on right) will be right up there in the mix.  Tonn looks fitter and faster than ever as she clocked a 16:32 three mile win at the Queen Creek Twilight Meet.

US#4 Torrey Pines squares off in the Team Sweepstakes against US#2 Saugus, US#15 Great Oak and previously ranked Dana Hills. In the most competitive girls championship race of the season the Mt SAC course record of 88:18 set by Saugus last season. In the boys Team Sweepstakes US#4 Arcadia is eager to face US#2 Royal again this season. The two teams have faced off in epic battles at both Stanford and Clovis. Other teams looking to get back into the national team championship picture such as formerly nationally ranked St. John Bosco, Davis Senior and US#13 Trabuco Hills will have all they can handle in Royal and Arcadia.
