Paige Sommers, had a solid sophomore Track and Field season in 2019 by recording personal bests of 15.33 in the 100 meter hurdles, 5-6 in the high jump, and 13-6 in the pole vault. She also finished 2nd at the California state meet with a jump of 13-0 behind fellow sophomore Ashley Callahan of Rancho Bernardo (13-4).
Early this winter, Sommers finished in 2nd place once again behind Ashley Callahan at the CA Winter State Track & Field Championship.
At her first meet (Thousand Oaks Invitational) of the season on February 22nd, Sommers opened up the outdoor season with a spectacular performance that was detailed HERE by our own Jeff Parenti. Her final mark of 14-6 surpassed the previous California 14-5.5 record set by Rachel Baxter of Canyon in Anaheim in 2017.
That mark was also the national record for a junior pole vaulter and puts her on pace to break the national records set by Chloe Cunliffe who vaulted 14-9 indoors and 14-8 outdoors in 2019.
