The hits keep on coming to the 2020 outdoor track and field season, of which appears to be lost due precautions now in place nationally to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The iconic Arcadia Invitational, the premier meet on the spring calendar not only in California but nationally, officially canceled the 2020 event, Meet Director Rich Gonzalez reported in a Tweet on Monday afternoon.
Arcadia, previously scheduled for April 10-11, had been the the largest meet not to cancel amid a rash of cancellations late last week, after public health officials restricted the size of gatherings in an effort to prevent further spreading of the virus.
As the recommended maximum size of the gatherings continued to shrink down to 50 by the end of the weekend, with it also went hope that a partial spring season might still be possible.
Arcadia's announcement Monday, obviously sad, was not unexpected.
