Status of Spring Season Atop Commissioners' Meeting Agenda

Text of the statement posted Friday afternoon from CIF Executive Director Ron Nocetti regarding next week's meeting with section commissioners and the future of the spring sports season:

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - Members of our interscholastic community are asking questions and raising concerns about the impact that COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and school closures may have on the 2020 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) spring sports season.

The 10 Section Commissioners and the CIF State Office Staff have their annual spring meeting scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17-18. The spring sports season is the first matter set for discussion and coordination at this meeting. While schools and school districts have authority over the scheduling and rescheduling of regular-season contests, the Sections, and the State Office will discuss how recent school closures and school district's postponement of their spring sports may impact post-season events.

The CIF will continue to work with our schools and school districts with the health and well-being of student-athletes and school communities as our priority.

Ron Nocetti
