San Diego Section Top 10 Team, Individual Rankings

TOP 10 GIRLS

1. Kristin Fahy (La Costa Canyon) -- What's not to like since she's won every major invitational, including the Mt. SAC Team Sweepstakes where she clocked a 16:50 -- the only runner to break 17 on the warm day? One of the front-runners in the state this season and a clear No. 1 here.

2. Carlie Dorostkar (Canyon Crest) -- Ultra-consistent runner who placed third in the Mt. SAC Invitational Sweepstakes race at 17:43.0. Has a section best of 16:49.3 over 3 miles from the Dana Hills Invitational. Figures to be among the Top 10 in D-I at State.

3. Skyler Wallace (Sage Creek) -- A little faster than Dorostkar on a flat course having run 17:41.4 at Stanford, which will be in her favor at the relatively level Woodward Park state course. Placed 9th at State a year ago in Division IV.

4. Stormy Wallace (Sage Creek) -- Freshman sister of Skyler no slouch herself having clocked an 18:03.2 at Stanford and 17:48 at Mt. SAC. While she lacks the experience of her sister, she's just as competitive.

5. Jessica Riedman (La Costa Canyon) -- Truly an amazing runner with great range as she was the section 800 meter champ in track. Sometimes gets lost running in Fahy's long shadow but ran 18:05.9 at Stanford and has sizzling closing speed.

6. Teresa Perez (Coronado) -- Three section runners are within a second of each other over 5K and while the senior Perez is third at 18:40.7, she also possesses speed and coach George Green is noted for his ability to have runners ready for the big meets.

7.  Trang Woolridge (Westview) -- Captured the 37th Southern California Invitational in 18:40.1 and as a sophomore, has plenty of room to improve. The farther the better for Woolridge, who excels on hills.

8. Caitlin Cornell (San Marcos) -- Has shown signs of a major breakthrough soon and with times like 17:34.6 for 3 miles at Woodbridge, is already pushing those around her.

9. Sydney Weaber (La Costa Canyon) -- Coach Bill Vice was looking for improvement from last year's frosh standout and has gotten it. The steady Weaber ran 18:45.7 at Stanford and is a critical point-earner for the Mavs.

10. Amy Brown (Ramona) -- Just barely ahead of newcomer Jacey Farmer of Rancho Bernardo. Brown is solid with a 17:54.8 at Dana Hills and an 18:40.6 running behind Trang at the SoCal Invitational. Junior will be in the mix.

TOP 10 GIRLS TEAMS

1. La Costa Canyon (Division II) -- Vice will have two horses in the race for his first-ever state team championship. With Fahy among the top three runners in the state and three among the best in the section, the Mavericks are unbeatable here.

2. Sage Creek (Division IV) -- If everyone stays healthy this is a quality team. The Wallaces are joined by Lavanya Pandey, 28th in the state last year, to form a knockout 1-2-3 punch. The Bobcats are deeeeep here as well.

3. Poway (Division II) -- The Titans' Eva Rethmeier and Katie Downs should be among the top 10 and depth is never a problem for this North County school.

4. Canyon Crest (Division I) -- Dorostkar is not a one-girl team and the Ravens will be making some noise come championship time.

5. El Camino (Division I) -- Liliana Prieto was 15th in the state a year ago and certainly hasn't slowed down this season. Really tight grouping for the Wildcats.

6. Scripps Ranch (Division II) -- Giovanna da Silva has lots of support and the Falcons are one of those teams that finishes with a bang.

7. Rancho Bernardo (Division I) -- The sky appears to be the limit for freshman sensation Jacey Farmer whose blood lines are solid gold. Ashley Learn will be right there with her teammate.

8. Torrey Pines (Division I) -- With Annika Salz leading the way, the Falcons are historically one of the best in the section.

9. Coronado (Division IV) -- Perez doesn't have as much help this year as last but the Islanders are always a factor.

10. University City (Division III) -- Isabelle Shepherd and Ella Ruff are a strong 1-2 punch and if Jimi McCarthy can work his magic, the Centurions will be there.
