2018 Central Coast Section XC Detailed Preview

Division 4 Girls

Teams to Watch (Full Rankings)

This division has been dominated by several SCCAL schools in the past decade or so but there appears to be a new contender ready to capture their first section title. The Menlo girls finished in 2nd place last year behind recent juggernaut, the Santa Cruz girls. They return their entire varsity lineup from 2017 and will be strong favorites to win this year. Their main competition should come from teams that will be very familiar with each other like San Lorenzo Valley, Carmel, Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley.

Athletes to Watch (Full Rankings)

The WBAL competitors will be quite familiar with each other and will be a major factor in determining the individual champion here. Last school year's section 3200m. champion, Anna Mokkapati of The King's Academy, is the top returner and will be the slight favorite to win the individual title. She will have plenty of competition from another Track and Field section champion, Menlo junior, Charlotte Tomkinson. Last season, Tomkinson won her first section title in the 800m., giving the WBAL two section champions in the girls' distance events. Sacred Heart Prep sophomore Luci Lambert finished in 3rd place at last year's section meet and will be in contention along with Menlo junior, Kyra Pretre. Harker's sophomore Anna Weirich will also be among the lead pack looking for an individual qualifying spot. Another runner to watch will be Santa Cruz's Gabby Hughes who recorded personal bests of 5:15.96 and 11:12.16 on the track.
