Rachel Baxter has already been to Poland to compete in World Juniors, and this summer she hopes to add a trip to Pan Am Juniors in Peru to her resume.
The USATF Junior Nationals are in Sacramento this weekend, and California athletes are all over the entry lists! "USA Juniors" is for athletes between the ages of 14 and 19, with most of the participants being high school seniors that just graduated or college athletes coming off their freshman seasons. Although there is no U-20 (Junior) World Championships this season, the top finishers in this week's national championship can move on to the Pan Am Junior Championships in Peru in late July.
Junior Nationals is not the only meet at Sacramento State this weekend: USATF also holds its Senior National Championships in conjunction with the Junior meet. Senior Nationals is for athletes of any age, primarily collegians and professionals, and serves as the qualifying meet for the IAAF World Championships in London this August.
We've combed through all the entry lists, and identified the top California athletes competing this weekend - the current high school athletes (or recent graduates) as well as the collegians that were members of the Golden State Class of 2016. Flip through the slides to see who might have a chance to move on to international competition this summer!
