Kaelin Roberts Carson has won two state championships in this event although she was at Long Beach Poly when she won her first state title as a freshman. She will have two teammates with her in this heat and should have no problem winning and improving her season best time of 53.76 recorded at the Mt. SAC Relays. Two North Coast Section runners will chase Roberts with Tierra Robinson-Jones Bishop O'Dowd (NCS) 54.53 and Alexis Surrell Newark Memorial (NCS) 55.00. The third NCS runner will be Alyssa Brewer of California, the defending state 800 champion. She will be coming out of lane 7 and has plenty of strength to challenge all the runners in this field.
The fastest time recorded 400 this season by an entrant in this meet is by Jordan Tillis Franklin, Elk Grove (SJS) who ran 48.12 in winning the Stanford Invitational. The favorite will be running just ahead of him out of lane 6 and that is Myles Ellis Antelope (SJS) who has a season best of 48.12 but a lifetime best of 46.78. He won the SJS Masters Meet and finished 4th in state last season. He really turned on the jets last season during the post season so this might be the meet where he turns it up a notch as he looks to improve last year's state finish. Oakland Tech (OAK) junior Henry Larkin 49.27 comes from a family of talented 400 runners and should not be overlooks.
