Artichoke Invitational Highlights
Jose Mosqueda (Kerman) had the best time of the day on the 2.33 mile course, clocking 12:05 (on pace for 15:32 for 3 miles). He ran away with the Small School Varsity race, winning by 26 seconds, while Santiago Ruiz (Grigori) held off Bennett Zhang (Monta Vista) for the Large Schools win in 12:13. Monta Vista got revenge by beating Gregori 68 - 72 in the team scores, as host Half Moon Bay took the Small Schools title with 55 points. In combined scores with all races together, however, it was Gregori that triumphed, totaling 1:03:53 over 5 runners to edge out Monta Vista's 1:03:55.
For the girls it was Kelly Bishop (Monta Vista) claiming the Large Schools win and the overall top time, clocking 14:24 (on pace for 18:32 over 3 miles). Bishop won by 10 seconds in her race, and it's a shame she didn't get to face Marissa D'Atri (Alhambra), who posted a 14:28 while winning the Small Schools race by 21 seconds. Kerman edged Woddside Priory 56 - 59 for the Small Schools team title, and Monta Vista scored a solid 51 - 75 victory over College Park in the Large Schools division. Monta Vista also had by far the best combined team time of the day, totaling 1:16:09 over their top 5 runners.
