Aisling Cuffe

Cuffe won the 1,600 at the Loucks Games Saturday in 4:40.56, the fastest time in the country this season. Her time bettered the state record of 4:42.40 set by Saratoga Springs’ Nicole Blood for a full mile. (Cuffe’s mark converts to 4:42.19 for a mile.)

WHITE PLAINS – Aisling Cuffe’s Friday consisted of watching a Harry Potter movie, a bullfighting documentary, watching Capitalism: A Love Story, lunch, and catching the beginning of the movie “Prestige.”

Chris Brown, SC, broke a 33 year old record with his US#1 51-2.5 TJ.  Billy Orman, AZ, broke a 27 year old State Record by running an 8:48.63 US#1 3200 meter run.  Aisling Cuffe, NY, put on a distance clinic with a 9:56.16 3200 yesterday and a 4:40.56 1600 today!  Haley Pierce, DE, ran a 4:41 1600 at her County Champs today as well. Aisling Cuffe remembered having an off-day whlle watching Haley Pierce turn in the best race of her career earn an upset at Penn Relays.

NEW YORK – It’s never a surprise when Mary Cain goes out hard. What is surprising though, is how hard she blasts off the starting line.

NEW YORK – The best indication that Aisling Cuffe was on pace had nothing to do with time. The Stanford-bound senior wanted to listen to her body and she knew her legs would pass the message.

Aisling Cuffe decided the pace and controlled the race throughout on her way to her second straight 3,000 state title, this time in a state record 9:29.89. She slipped right ahead of North Shore’s Samantha Nadel and continued dialing up the pace. Nadel followed until Cuffe started to build some distance in the last mile. Her time bettered a mark of 9:31.97, set by Elmira-Notre-Dame’s Molly Huddle in 2002.

Aisling Cuffe backed up her Foot Locker national title with a championship in the US Junior Women's Championship in San Diego.   Molly Grabill, yet another prep runner, claimed second as high school runners made their presence felt among collegiate runners.    What follows is a brief look at the race for the young ladies' title.

  Lukas Verzbicas, IL, has clearly established himself as the best high school XC harrier of 2010 with an impressive Nike XC Nationals win in the mud and a dominating win in the sun at the Foot Locker Nationals.  Lukas became the first harrier to win both the NXN and Foot Locker titles in the same year and just the 3rd harrier ever to win 2 Foot Locker titles.  These stats should establish a foundation for considering him as one of the best high school harriers of all-time.  

  Well, this is it.  High School Cross Country is over, and another Foot Locker Championships is complete.  It’s weird being a senior, knowing that for me, Foot Locker is over.  I have NCAAs to look forward to, but that’s just not the same as Foot Locker.  (Cover photos by Don Rich)

Cornwall, NY senior Aisling Cuffe finished her season undefeated by winning her first Foot Locker National title in San Diego, CA.  Cuffe ran 16:53 to win by 34 seconds over Rachel Johnson from Plano, TX.  Cuffe becomes the first New York girl to win the title since Aislinn Ryan in 2004.  Ryan ran 17:31 that year on the same Balboa Park course, though conditions may have been drastically different.

Hello everyone!  I am writing this on my last night at home, before I catch my early flight to sunny San Diego, en route to the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships!  I am very excited for my trip.  This is the time of year that I look forward to the most (ever since I started running, anyway).  This is by far my favorite race of the year.  I can’t wait to meet all of the competitors, and get to know them more throughout the course of the weekend.  I can already picture what I will be doing tomorrow!  I will get off the plane, and pause to take in the warm sunshine that I haven’t seen in about 2 months.  I will ride the Foot Locker bus to the Del Coronado, and check in to get all of the gear and Uniforms and what not… I can’t wait to see the uniforms!  I have a feeling I know what color they will be, but I can’t be 100% sure until I actually get to hold them in my hands.  After that, I will meet my roommate, and we will get ready for the group run in the afternoon.  I realize that I am just rambling on and on about something that hasn’t even happened yet, but I really can’t wait.  It’s going to be hard go to bed tonight!

 Hello everyone!  This will probably be my shortest journal to date, because I only have to cover a few days.  Due to my long winded nature however, I will probably find a way to make many words about 3 days.  They have been very eventful, and a lot of fun.  So here I go!
