After another blazing meet that produced some impressive times and marks it is now time to look back and select what the best performance was of the meet.

In its fifteenth year of being run, the Southern Track Classic did not dissapoint. With great afternoon weather it seemed as though it was going to be a perfect evening but the weather did not stay that nice all evening and decided to take a turn for the worse during the 400s. Soon after it began to rain but the speed and talent of the athletes still broke through leading to eight VA #1 times, many of which rank nationally, including many in the later events. 

MileStat.com is excited to announce that we will be doing a first for this weekend's MileStat.com Elite Track Classic in providing a live webcast of the meet, which the site insiders can enjoy and watch from the comforts of their home. Over 87 schools from Virginia, Maryland, DC, and North Carolina are slated to attend with over 1,700 athletes competing. We will be providing a live stream from start to finish on both Friday and Saturday of all running events. Race videos will then be archived on replay after the meet on the meet page.

With under a week until the 2014 installment of the New Balance National Indoor Nationals, it is now time to see who will not only come home with a title but who will produce the best performance. 

Despite being a completely new regional championship many of the former AAA Northern Regional teams came in with a sense of not only setting meet standards for the new meet but for expanding on the already illustrious history of this meet. 

A group of elite Virginia high school individuals and relays have been selected and will be competing in the invitational high school events this weekend at the New York Armory in the midst of the college meet, the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.

The failures are the most unnerving, for a number of reasons: That she had a plan and couldn’t execute it; that she got stuck in a position she didn’t want to; that she finished in a place she hadn’t prepared for. But Battlefield senior Ellison Grove needs these races, Alisa Harvey says, because they teach her how to respond. For every great race, there are countless forgettable ones, says the George Mason High track & field coach, who works with Grove privately.

Ellison Grove, the returning Group AAA state outdoor champion at 800 meters, competes today at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic at the New York Armory in the invitational 800 field which features three girls who have ran faster than Grove's 2:11.38 personal best and four others who have ran in the 2:12 to 2:16 range behind her. The race is slated to start at 12:50 PM mid-day on Friday.

A list of the top 50 high school girls performances in each indoor track & field event in the state of Virginia regardless of classification as of December 16th, 2013 according to performances & results entered in the MileStat.com database. Battlefield senior Ellison Grove not only ran the state's fastest time at 1000 meters, but also moved to the top of the national leaderboard in the event with a 2:56.13 performance at the Liberty Elite Invitational this past Saturday in Lynchburg.

This year's USATF Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships are being held within reasonable driving distance to most Virginians who participate in summer track at North Carolina A&T's outdoor track & field facility in Greensboro, North Carolina starting on Monday, July 22nd and running through Sunday, July 28th. MileStat.com will be provide daily summaries of top performances by Virginia high school athletes competing in Greensboro next week.

MileStat.com is excited to announce its 2013 All-MileStat.com Outdoor Track & Field Girls Team. The entire All-MileStat.com team includes a first, second, and third team for each of the regularly contested individual event during championship season in the state of Virginia. Congratulations to all 42 girls who have been selected!

Four Virginia high school athletes competed last week at the USATF Junior Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa with the top performer being Chantilly distance runner Sean McGorty as he made the finals of the men's 1500.

In an upward trend which hopefully continues for future years, a total of 5 Virginia high school track & field athletes are headed to Des Moines, Iowa this weekend to compete at the USATF Junior Nationals with spots on the line to make the US Junior team for the Pan Am Junior Games later this summer in Columbia. The list of Virginia high school entrants include South County's Felecia Majors (400m, long jump), Chantilly's Sean McGorty (1500m), Forest Park's Ricky Morgan (400m), Battlefield's Ellison Grove (800m), and Liberty Christian Academy's Micah Brickhill (800m).

  A list of the top returning individuals in each event among Northwest Region Region schools from last year's outdoor season and links to full returnees rankings lists in each event. Kiana Hairston leads the Osbourn Park girls squad as the region's fastest returning sprinter in the 100 (12.04) and 200 (25.14) meter dash. This past indoor season, Hairston won the Northwest Region 55 meter dash title in a 7.15 personal best clocking, while also dipping under 41 seconds in the 300 meter dash.

Michael Cherry, Carolyn Bethel, and the Forest Park boys 4x200 meter relay lead a small group of Virginia preps who will be competing this weekend in the high school portion of the New Balance Collegiate Games at the New York Armory in New York City.
