The first stop on the road to the CIF State Championships is the numerous league championships happening across California. Athletes from across the Golden State are now starting to peak for the end of May, but in California, you must show up each week, or your spot will be taken.
Last week, all league championships came to an end, while most sections are just getting started. Below, take a look at the new state leads and highlight performances from league championships across the state.
New California State Leaders
Clara Adams (Long Beach Wilson) - Girls 400m, 52.80
The Moore League Finals saw one of the greatest 400m performances by a Californian team in history, with Clara Adams at the helm. Adams led the epic 1st through 4th sweep with a state-leading 52.80 in the 400m, her second-fastest 400m of her high school career. Her incredible effort pushed her teammates, Saniah Varnado (53.19), Brooklyn Fowler (54.21), and Brooke Blue (54.29), to personal records. This is a dangerous 4x400m team!!
Kaahliyah Lacy (San Jacinto Valley) - Girls 100mH, 13.59
Beyond Kaahliyah Lacy's four-event sweep at the South Valley League Championships in the 100m, 100m hurdles, 200m, and 300m hurdles, she continued to establish herself as a standout short hurdler. She ran 13.59 in the 100m hurdles, which moves her up to U.S. No. 9.
Quran Clayton (Oak Hills) - Boys 100m, 10.12 (+2.5w)
At the Mojave River League Championships, Quran Clayton ran a state-leading 10.12 in the 100m for all conditions. This stellar mark is among the top three fastest all-conditions times for a Californian in history and could set up Clayton for an historic run through the CIF rounds this May.
