Top California Performances You Missed at Arcadia

The Arcadia Invitational once again delivered elite competition, with California athletes making major statements across events and setting the stage for a highly competitive CIF postseason.

Listed below are performances you may have missed this past weekend that we didn't already dive deep into in our Arcida Invitational Recap or Performer of the Week Polls (GIRLS or BOYS).

GIRLS

While relays and out-of-state stars garnered most of the attention from the Arcadia Invitational, California girls highlighted how competitive this CIF season will be. 

The girls' short sprints are the best examples of where Olivia Kirk and Naiaja Sizemore traded spots as the fastest Californians in the 100m and 200m invitational sections. Also, the pole vault pitted the two best Californians against each other, resulting in a tie between Cassidy Nguyen and Caitlin Khieu. 

Braelyn Combe, Jaslene Massey, and Chiara Dailey didn't follow the trend with fierce performances, further establishing themselves as some of the best in the nation. Masey threw a U.S. #1 in the shot put on her way to securing the discus and shot put victories. Dailey ran a strong final lap to win the 1 Mile invite by three seconds, moving her up to U.S. No.1, while Braelyn Combe was head-to-head with Paige Sheppard, who's now U.S. #2 in the 800m.

BOYS 

Beyond the relays and a few individual races, this year's Arcadia Invitational served as a strong preview of CIF State Finals across several events. These competitive races brought state leads in the shot put by Case Jacobson, the 300m hurdles by Cy Lugo, the 3200m by Maximo Zavaleta, and the high jump by Joshua Harel. 

There were also big statements made by Hugh Heyer following up his Dublin Distance Fiesta 800m victory with the Arcadia Invitational win. Ryan Shen also secured a lot of momentum by winning the long jump invite with an impressive personal record of 24-4. 

Lastly, the performances outside the spotlight shone brightly as the dust settled. Demare Dezeurn ran the 2nd fastest time of the weekend to win the seeded 200m section in a season's best of 21.12, while freshman Antwone Beatie won the open 400m session on Saturday morning with a new lifetime best of 47.53.
