California high school track and field athletes posted personal-best performances across multiple events during the week of March 16.
Below, check out the athletes who broke through this past week and will look to carry that momentum into a great 2026 season.
Taylor Wellersdick (Chico High School) ran 10:46.07 in the 3200m, moving up to #17 in CA. That's a PR, down from 11:17.25. The performance is particularly notable because it surpasses Wellersdick's previous best event, an 18:27.40 in the 5000m, showing a new dimension to her abilities.
Gavin Pianta (Laguna Hills) cleared 6-6 in the high jump at the Ocean View vs. Laguna Hills dual meet on March 18, breaking his previous personal record of 5-6 from March 2026. The sophomore won the event among seven competitors, setting a school record and tying for #7 in the state.
Sonia Humer (Rancho Bernardo High) cleared 12-2 in the pole vault, moving up to #5 in CA. The mark improves on Humer's previous best of 11-2.
Jayden Scott (Murrieta Mesa) jumped 22-4 in the long jump at Murrieta Mesa vs. Murrieta Valley on March 18, improving from his previous best of 19-6 set in May 2025. The junior won the event among 13 competitors, set a school record, and ranked #40 in California.
Keirra Elliott (Eastlake) ran 57.00 in the 400 meters at the Jim Cerveny Invite VIII on March 21, improving from her previous time of 1:05.55. She won the event among 33 competitors and ranks #33 in the state.
Benjamin Dimaurier (Clayton Valley Charter) ran 21.58 in the 200 meters at the DAL Acalanes vs. Clayton Valley Charter meet on March 19, improving from his previous time of 23.23 set in April 2025. The junior won the event among 31 competitors and ranks #27 in the state.
Tadeus Oppenhuizen (Turlock) cleared 15-1 in the pole vault at the Red Estes Invitational on March 20, improving from his previous best of 14-0 from March 2026. The senior placed second of 14 competitors and ranks #14 in California.
