Long Beach Wilson Extends CIF Dynasty at State

For the third consecutive year, the CIF State Track and Field Championships have been colored by maroon and gold. The Long Beach Wilson girls won their third straight team title with 46 points, the most in their championship run so far.

Kaylin Edwards and Loren Webster have been anchors on the Long Beach Wilson dynasty since their first win in 2023. This year, Edwards contributed 24 points across the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and 4x400m relay. The Arkansas commit once again showed why she is one of the most versatile athletes in the country.

Meanwhile, Loren Webster's long jump performance sparked the fire for every Bruin to start the day. On her second jump in the state final, Webster hit 20ft for the first time since setting a personal record of 20-9.5 at the state meet last year. She proceeded to hit over 20ft again, and on her second-to-last jump, she bounced over 21ft.

The Oregon commit looked up to the sky with relief and gratitude after jumping 21-0.25 feet, successfully defending her state title. That jump ranks Webster as the best jumper in the nation this season.

After that 10-point boost by Webster, the Bruins executed their mission flawlessly. Shirayah Lewis-Williams placed 5th in the 800m with a new PR of 2:09.42. Saniah Varnado captured a massive PR of 41.84 in the 300m hurdles to place 6th.

In the relays, Long Beach Wilson did their job by securing 4th place in the 4x800m and closing the meet with a dominant win in the 4x400m relay. The squad, consisting of Brooke Blue, Alene Washington, Saniah Varnado, and Kaylin Edwards, split 52.75, 57.15, 53.25, and 53.62. They finished in a time of 3:36.75, ranking Long Beach Wilson as No. 8 all-time in U.S. high school history

Under the leadership of Coach Neil Nelson, Wilson's dynasty shows no signs of slowing. Of the eight girls who competed in individual events at state, only three are seniors.

With this win, Wilson breaks a tie with Berkeley to claim the second-most girls' team titles in CIF State history (6), trailing only Long Beach Poly (15). Their three straight championships also tie them with Berkeley for the second-most consecutive wins. A title in 2026 would match Long Beach Poly for the all-time record.

Needless to say, expect to see more maroon and gold flying around the track in 2026 and beyond.
