We'll conduct a poll every week highlighting some of California's best performances.

The California Performer of the Week poll will close at 5 p.m. PST this Thursday, and the winner will be announced shortly after.

CANDIDATES 

Malia Rainey (Calabasas): In recent years, Calabasas has emerged as a perennial sprint powerhouse, and Malia Rainey is continuing that tradition with her Ventura County Championships 100m win. Rainey ran 11.64 to win and ranked herself the sixth fastest in California.

Gaby Gutierrez (Buchanan): The outstanding freshman from Buchanan has continued her great success in cross country and threw down an exceptional 3200m time last week. Gaby Gutierrez ran 10:36.85 to not only move up in California's top 20 in the 3200m, but she is also a top 10 freshman nationally.

Zenallah Hatcher Simmons (Del Campo)This year, Hatcher Simmons has been consistently over the 40-foot mark, which was no different at the Sacramento Meet of Champions. She won the competition with 43-10.25, only a quarter off her PR from Arcadia.

Sidney Johnson (Rio Americano): Since breaking the 40-foot barrier earlier this month at the Stanford Invitational, Sidney Johnson has not looked back. The freshman hit a personal record of 41-11.5 to finish 2nd at the Sacramento Meet of Champions. She ranks as the top freshman in California and among the top 10 best freshmen in the nation.
