In this edition of California's Future Stars, we would like to introduce you to the new California leader in the girls' 400m who shocked the state at the 65th Annual Mt. SAC Relays.
Amira Whitehead is a sophomore out of Summit High School who started the season strong in the 400m with a new personal record of 57.92 to start March. Since then, Whitehead has progressed exponentially, and getting a spot in the Arcadia Day session changed everything when she won in a time of 54.66.
After that amazing race during the day session, Whitehead was invited to compete in the invitational section at night, where she ran 55.48. She finished ninth, but with all things considered, it was a fantastic performance for a sophomore's first time attending the Arcadia Invitational.
The following week, she walked in fresh into the Mt. SAC 400m invitational and won a close race to secure the California lead at 53.77. Currently, Amira Whitehead is the fifth fastest sophomore girl in the nation. Look below to see Whitehead's complete 2025 progression in the 400m.

Whitehead's consistency over the past two weeks is promising as we enter the postseason and can be a sign of great success for her in May. It's also worth mentioning that she is CA No.5 in the 200m at 23.84, and she doubled back at the Mt. SAC Relays to run 24.05 in the 200m.
She will have great competition during the postseason, including future stars Clara Adams (North Salinas), Alaya Graves-Hogains (Canyon Country), and many more.
