CLOVIS -- Timing is everything in an 800 meter final.
On Saturday at the CIF State Outdoor Championships, Poway's Tessa Buswell measured the championship race to precision.
With 200 meters left on the Veteran's Memorial Stadium track, Buswell swung wide and put the pedal to the metal, moving past the field and offering a winning move of 2:06.51.
The performance, Buswell's first win after finishing third, sixth and eighth across her high school career, represented a fitting finish for the senior.
Finishing second was Carlsbad's Makenna Herbst, who led early and scored a runner-up nod in 2:07.23, and Newport Harbor's Keaton Robar, who was third in 2:07.40.
