Evaluating the Eastbay Regions by Performance at Nationals
Which qualifying region produces the best performances at Nationals in San Diego? (And to piggyback on a theme we introduced a few weeks ago, does the long grind of the California postseason dampen the performances of the Golden State athletes that compete at Balboa Park?) Let's take a quick look by breaking down the last 10 years of individual performances (you can see the raw data on the next few slides).
When we look at the average times for the top 50 performers from each region over the past decade, we get these results:

Right off the bat, you can see a clear discrepancy between boys and girls. The West girls are by far the worst of the four regions, although a quick glance at the top 50 for the West shows that California girls have performed quite well (4 of the top 10 and 8 of the top 15).
