Congratulations to all 2021 boys for their selection onto the MileSplitCA All-State Boys Senior Track and Field Team!

Athletes were selected based on their placement among U.S. rankings within the class and overall, as well as impactful results at section finals and major invitationals. Versatility and depth of resume during the 2021 outdoor season were strongly considered. 

Rankings and athlete PRs are based on marks in the MileSplit database. References to U.S. rankings mean within the boys class of 2021 unless overall is noted.

FIRST TEAM


Antonio Abrego (Golden Valley/SS) - 800m

Ran season-best 1:51.33 to win at Arcadia, a time that ranks CA No. 2 overall and U.S. No. 16. Also won at MOC Distance Classic (1:52.05) and  College: Iowa

D'Niko Bates (St. Mary's College/NC) - Hurdles

No. 1 combo hurdler in the class. Ran 110mH best of 14.21 (3.9) for second at Pittsburg Relays. Ran wind-legal best of 14.26 (0.9) for second at NorCal Champs. Ran 300mH best of 37.84 to win at Golden West Invitational, a time that ranks tied for U.S. No. 25. College: Cal.

Zach Buckey (Garces Memorial/CS) - Discus Throw

Season best of 190-00 to win at the CIF-Central Section South Area Regional ranks U.S. No. 13. Also threw plus-180 at the McFarland/Wasco Mini Meet (188-05.50) and Clovis East Carnival (187-1). College: Stanford.

Garrett Brown (La Costa Canyon/SD) - Pole Vault

San Diego Section record holder won the CIF-SDS D-2 title with a PR of 17-2. That mark ranks U.S. No. 3 overall. Won at CIF-SDS Open (16-02). Went 17-plus Chandler Rotary (17-00.75) and Torrey Pines dual (17-1). Won at Arcadia (16-3), Gateway to T&F (16-9), California Relays (16-10), and Coastal League Finals (16-11), among 11 invitational/post-season victories. College: Stanford.

Myles Carter (Northwood/SS) - Triple Jump

Jumped PR of 47-06 to win OC Champs. Wind-legal best of 46-09.50 (0.3) to win CIF-SS D-2 title, ranks U.S. No. 25 (wl). Top LJ/TJ combo jumper in the class. Long jump PR of 22-01.50 to sweep jumps at Pacific Coast League Finals.

Charlie Dang (Silver Creek/CC) - Throws

Top combo thrower in the class. PR discus throw of 193-8 at a dual ranks U.S. No. 9. Won CIF-CCS title in the discus throw (170-05) and was third in the shot put (50-01.50). Placed second at Arcadia in the discus throw (182-01).

Kienan Donovan (Golden Valley/SS) - Throws

No. 3 combo thrower in the class. Hit shot put season best of 59-08 at a dual. Placed second at CA State Champs 56-10.75 after going 57-00.75 in prelims. Swept the throws at CIF-SS D-2 Finals, winning the discus in 159-10 and the shot put in 58-06. Swept at Foothill League Finals with throws of 174-07.50 and 58-03. College: UC Riverside.

Angus Fitzgerald (Royal/SS) - Distances

Opened the season with a 1:55.72 PR for 800m at Don Green and closed with a 1600m best of 4:08.38 to win the title at the CIF-SS D-2 Finals. That time ranks U.S. No. 19. In between, he ran PRs for 3200m (9:16.85), mile (4:13.56) and ran sub-4:13 for 1600m at Sundown Track Sereis #3 (4:12.00) and Ventura County Champions (4:12.96). College: Boise State.

Tristyn Flores (Rancho Cucamonga/SS) - Sprints

Top combo sprinter in the class ran 100m PR of 10.35 (3.0) to win the CIF-SS D-1 title, a time that ranks U.S. No. 17 (all conditionsc). Wind-legal 100m best of 10.53 (1.7) for fourth at CA State Champs. Ran all-conditions 200m best of 21.22 (3.5) for second at CIF-SS D-1 Finals. College: Idaho.

Russell Gordon (Fort Bragg High/NC) - Hurdles

No. 3 combo hurdler in the class. Ran 37.79 to win the 300m hurdles at CA State Champs. Placed fifth in the 10mH in 14.88 (0.4). Won the 110mH at eight meets, including Thunder (15.07) and  Redwood Empire (14.87w). Won eight times over 300mH, incluing Thunder (39.98) and Redwood Empire (38.71). College: UC Santa Barbara.

Darius Hill (Vista Murrieta/SS) - Jumps

Cleared 6-10 to win the high jump title at CIF-SS D-1 Finals, a mark that ranks tied for U.S. No. 14. Won the HJ title at CA State Champs (6-08). Hit wind-legal long jump best of 23-00.50 (0.1) to win at Inland Empire Champs. Place third at CA State Champs 22-11 (0.0).

Ugonna Ikejiofor (Downey/SS) - Throws

No. 2 combo thrower in the class. State leader in the discus throw with a best of 193-10 to win at the San Gabriel Valley League Finals, a mark that ranks U.S. No. 8. Won at CA State Champs with a best of 192-00. Won the discus at CIF-SS D-1 (182-07).

Maxwell Jefferson (Poway/SD) - Hurdles

Won the 110m hurdles at CA State Champs in a time of 14.23 (0.4). That time ranks U.S. No. 26 (wind-legal). Ran 300m hurdles best of 38.08 for third at CA State Champs. Swept the hurdles at CIF-SDS Open winning the 110mH in 14.33 (2.1) and the 300mH in 38.68. Also swept the hurdles at CIF-SDS D-1 Finals (14.34/1.9) and 38.34.

Phillip Jefferson (Long Beach Wilson/SS) - Sprints/Hurdles

No. 1 combo 400m/300mH in the class. Undefeated in seven 300mH races culminating in a 37.73 PR to win the title at CIF-SS D-1 Finals. Won seven of eight 400m races including running 48.28 to win the title at CIF-SS D-1 Finals, just missing his PR by 0.01. Hurdles PR ranks U.S. No. 22. College: Iowa.

Aaron Kim (Palo Alto/CC) - High Jump

Cleared 7-0 to win the CIF-Central Coast Section title, a height that ranks CA No. 1 overall and tied for U.S. No. 5. It was a significant PR of Kim, whose previous best was 6-7. College: Boston University.

John Lester (Amador Valley/NC) - Distances

National leader in the 800m with 1:47.65 SB at Stumptown Twilight, a time that ranks No. 3 in CA history. Also ran sub-1:50 at Sound Running (1:49.77) and Music City (1:48.50). College: Stanford.

Gabriel Martin (Oaks Christian/SS) - Jumps

Hit wind-legal best long jump of 24-02.75 (1.9) to win the CIF-SS D-4 title, a mark that ranks U.S. No. 13 (ac) and U.S. No. 5 (wl). Won the LJ title at CA State Champs in 23-07.00 (0.0).

Bo Olsen (Buchanan/CS) - Distances

Ran 1600m best of 4:11.04 to win the CIF-Central Section Masters title. Also won the 800m at CIF-CS Masters (1:57.35) and at CA State Champs (1:54.58). College: Fresno Pacific.

Ajani Salcido (Jesuit/SJ) - Distances

Ran 1600m best of 4:07.81 at a league meeet in mid-May, a time that slots U.S. No. 13. Ran 3200m in 8:51.32 for third at Arcadia. Lowered 3200m PR to 8:46.32 at Brooks PR in July. That mark ranks No. 18 all-time in CA. Swept the 1600m and 3200m races at Dublin Social Distance Fiesta #2, running 4:09.95/8:56.57. Ran 4:10.51 to win the 1600m at DSDF #3. College: UCLA.

Nolan Topper (Bellarmine/CC) - Distances

Ran 1600m best of 4:07.97 to win the title at the CIF-Central Coast Section Finals. That time ranks U.S. No. 15. Ran 3200m in 8:52.95 for fifth at Arcadia.Won 3200m title at CIF-CCS Champs in 9:12.78. Ran 3200m PR of 8:51.83 at Brooks PR in July. College: Stanford

Camren Willis (Poway/SD) - Jumps

Won the long jump title at CIF-SDS D-1 with a best of 23-06.75 (1.9), a mark that ranks U.S. No. 12 (wl). Went 23-01.75 (0.9) as the top qualifying jump at CA State Champs. Had the best jump at eight meets. Went 23-05.25 for second at Arcadia.


SECOND TEAM

Mateo Bianchi (Laguna Beach/SS) - Distances - Ran 3200m best of 9:02.03 to win at CA State Champs. Won the 1600m (4:12.46) and placed second in th 3200m (9:24.42) at CIF-SS D-3 Finals. College: UCLA.

Calvin Black (Clovis North/CS) - Jumps - Wind-legal best triple jump of 46-11.50 (.5) for second at CIF-CS Masters, ranks U.S. No. 18 (wl). 

Austin Gillen (Buchanan/CS) - Sprints - Ran 400m PR of 47.92 for second at Arcadia. Ran 48.69 to win at West Coast Relays and 48.22 for second at TRAC. College: Army Academy at West Point

Nicholas Goldstein (Newbury Park/SS) - Distances - Ran 3200m best of 9:00.50 for sixth at Sundown Track Series #2. College: Furman.

Malik Harness (Long Beach Poly/SS) - Sprints - Ran 21.17 (3.5) to win the 200m title at the CIF-SS D-1 Finals. That time ranks tied for U.S. No. 24 (ac). 

Michael Holland Jr. (Moorpark/SS) - Sprints - Ran 400m best of 47.98 for second at CA State Champs. Runner-up in the 200m (21.67w PR) and 400m (48.41) at CIF-SS D-2 Finals.

Taylor Iden (Archbishop Mitty/CC) - Distances - Ran 1600m best of 4:08.05 for second at CIF-CCS Finals. That time ranks U.S. No. 16. College: UC Santa Barbara.

Carson Kaminski (Trabuco Hills/SS) - 300mH - Ran 300mH best of 38.31 for second at CIF-SS D-1 Finals. College: Wyoming.

Devin Kelly (Central/CS) - Jumps - Won the CIF-CS Masters title with a wind-legal best of 47-1 (1.5). Ranks U.S. No. 16 (wl). College: Fresno Pacific.

Paul McCants (De La Salle/NC) - Sprints - Dropped PR of 10.66 (0.9) for 100m and 21.59 for 200m at Gateway to T&F. Swept the 100m and 200m at both Tri Valley Championships (10.67/21.94) and NorCal Championships (10.67/21.86).  

Marcus Monroe (Ayala/SS) - Jumps - At CIF-SS D-1 Finals, won the long jump (22-06.50/1.4) and cleared 6-10 for second in the high jump, a mark that is equal to U.S. No. 14. 

Colin Peattie (Bellarmine College Prep/CC) - Distances - Ran 3200m best of 8:56.73 for eighth at Arcadia, a time that ranks U.S. No. 22. College: Virginia

Xayvion Perkins (Chaminade College Prep/SS) - Hurdles - Ran 110m hurdles best of 14.30 (1.4) to win at Mission League Finals. At CIF-SS D-3 Finals, placed second in the 110mH (14.52/1.9) and third in the 300mH (38.96). College: Syracuse.

Cyprus Rice (Clovis North/CS) - Pole Vault - Jumped PR of 16-1 to win Sanger Metric Classic. Placed second at State Champs 15-09. Won at CIF-CS Masters (15-05). College: Long Beach State.

Matthew Russell (Royal/SS) - Distances - Ran 1600m best of 4:11.02 to win at Ventura County Champs. Won the 800m at CIF-SS D-2 Finals (1:53.21). 

Daniel Sarisky (Thousand Oaks/SS) - Sprints - Won CIF-SS D-2 title in the 200m (21.40/2.3) and placed second in the 100m (10.70) after running 10.57w PR at prelims. 

Joshua Schuld (Beckman/SS) - Distances - Ran 1600m best of 4:11.32 to win at Laguna Beach Distance Carnival. Ran 3200m best of 8:56.34 for seventh at Arcadia, a time that ranks U.S. No. 21. 

Jonathan Simmons (Skyline/OK) - Sprints - Swept the 200m and 400m titles at CIF-OKS Championship in 23.50 (-0.7) and 48.96, respectively, and won the long jump with a 19-01 PR. Also won both sprint titles at Clash of the Titans running a pair of PRs, 22.39 (0xx) and 48.75. Ran 800m PR aof 1:56.43 at Dublin Social Distance Fiesta #2 and his 3200m PR of 10:54.51 at Dublin Social Distance Fiesta #3. 

Kyle Smith (Mission Hills/SD) - Sprints - Ran 10.59 (1.7) for fifth at CA State Champs, tied for U.S. No. 22 (wl). Swept the sprints at CIF-SDS Open, winning the 100m in 10.52 (2.4) and the 200m in 21.64 (1.6). 

Anthony Taylor (Cathedral/SS) - Hurdles - Ran 110mH best of 14.35 (0.4) for second at CA State Champs. Won the 110mH title at CIF-SS D-3 Finals (14.49/1.9). College: Oregon.

Galen Topper (Bellarmine College Prep/CC) - Distances - Ran 3200m best of 8:59.29 for second at Dublin Social Distance Fiesta #2. College: Stanford

Brandon Benson (King/SS) - Jumps - 46-00 (0-0) for third in the triple jump at CA State Champs. 

Deon Brown (West Bakersfield/CS) - Jumps - Won CIF-CS South Area regional with wind-legal 47-02 (1.4), a mark that ranks U.S. No. 15. 

Jailen Burrell (Upland/SS) - Jumps - Long jump best o 23-4 (0.0) for second at CA State Champs ranks U.S. No. 17 (wl). 

Will Denning (Junipero Serra/CC) - Jumps - Won triple jump at CA State Champs 46-03.50 (2.5) after going 46-03.00 in prelims. Also won at CIF-CCS Champs with a best of 45-01 (-2.0). 

Keylen Dickens (Long Beach Poly/SS) - Hurdles - Ran 110mH best of 14.38 (1.2) for fifth at CIF-SS D-1 Prelims.

Eli Gault-Crabb (Burroughs Burbank/SS) - Pole Vault - Best of 16-6 to win CIF-SS D-1 Finals.

Tyler Holl (La Costa Canyon/SD) - Hurdles - Swept the hurdles at CIF-SDS D-2 Finals, winning the 110mH in 14.60 (1.3) and the 300mH in 40.09.

Zeid Hussain (Beckman/SS) - Distances - Ran 3200m best of 9:01.53 at Arcadia. Won CIF-SS D-1 title 9:16.86.

Courvosiea Irby (Morse/SD) - Throws - Swept the throws at CIF-SDS Open, winning the discus in 169-03 and the shot put with a best of 53-04. 

Chris Jackson (Madison/SD) - Sprints - won the 100m (10.80/0.4), 200m (21.90/1.8) and the long jump (21-07.00/2.0) at CIF-SDS D-3 Finals.

Mateo Joseph (Great Oak/SS) - 800m - Won CIF-SS D-1 title 1:53.58. Also ran sub-1:54 for fourth at MOC Distance Classic (1:53.63) and third (1:53.97) at Arcadia.

Peyton Kilheffer (Brea Olinda/SS) - Hurdles - Ran 300m hurdles best of 37.87 for second at CA State Champs.

Ian Lipsey (Valhalla/SD) - Jumps - Won CIF-San Diego Open long jump title with a best of 23-03.50 (1.7), a mark that ranks U.S. No. 18 (wl). A CIF-SDS D-2, won the 100m (10.82) and LJ (22-05.50/1.1).

Ayden Merrihew (Clovis/CS) - Throws - Won the discus throw (171-09) and placed second in the shot put (56-05.25) at CIF-CS Masters.

Elon Osinowo (Oceanside/SD) - Jumps - Season best of 23-03 (0.6) at a dual ranks U.S. No. 19 (wl). Went 22-11.25 for at CIF-SDS D-1 Prelims and 22-05 for second in the finals. 

Diego Perez (Davis/SJ) - Distances - Ran 1600m SB of 4:10.46 to win at the Marauder Invitational. Ran 800m PR of 1:55.12 to win at Thunder.

Jyden Schmid (Mira Mesa/SD) - Distances - Swept the 1600m (4:14.03) and 3200m (9:26.79) at CIF-SDS D-1 Finals.

Luis-Ramon Torres (Stockdale/CS) - Hurdles - Swept the hurdles titles at CIF-CS Masters winning the 110ms in 15.13 (0.0) and 300mH in 39.89. 

Christian Trapps (Pittsburg/NC) - Sprints - Ran 10.63 (1.7) for sixth at CA State Champs, ranks tied for U.S. No. 35 (wl).
