Freshman Boys MileSplitCA All-State Track and Field Team


Congratulations to all 2024 boys for their selection onto the MileSplitCA All-State Boys Freshman Track and Field Team!

Athletes were selected based on rankings within the class as well as statewide rankings regardless of class for marks achieved during the 2021 spring season. Results at section finals and major invitationals were also considered. 

Rankings and athlete PRs are based on marks in the MileSplit database. U.S. rankings are within the boys class of 2024.

FRESHMAN BOYS ALL-STATE TEAM

Vincent Atilano (Cathedral Catholic/SD) - Hurdles

Top combined hurdler in the class. PR for 300mH of 40.99 ranks U.S. No. 28. Also ran 41.52 for sixth place at CIF-SDS Open Championships. At CIF-San Diego Section Division 2 Finals, placed second in the 300mH (41.01) and fourth for 110mH in 16.21 (1.3) PR.

Joel Bradley (Roseville/SJ) - Jumps/Hurdles

Versatile jumper/hurdler leads the class in the long jump (21-10.50), 110mH for both all-conditions (15.56/2.1) and wind-legal (15.69/-1.3). Also ranks No. 6 for all-conditions 200m (22.83/0.2) and 11th for wind-legal 100m (11.30/-0.7). 

Malachi Carrasco (Selma/CS) - High Jump

Has PR of 6-foot 5-inches and also won the CIF-Central Section Masters title at the same height. His PR equals CA No. 17 overall and equals U.S. No. 9. Also triple jumped 41-5 (1.9) for second at CIF-Central Section East Regional, a mark that ranks tied for U.S. No. 21 for wind-legal marks.

Brandon Cheeks (Mission Bay/SD) - Jumps/Hurdles

Won the CIF-San Diego Section Division 3 title with a triple jump best of 43-11 (1.8). That mark ranks U.S. No. 25 for all-conditions marks and U.S. No. 8 wl. Jumped 43-6 (1.5) for fifth at CIF-SDS Open Championships. Ran 110mH in 16.38 (1.5) for sixth at CIF-SDS D3 Finals.

Chase Farrell (Oaks Christian/SS) - Sprints

Not only the best sprinter in the 2024 class but one of the best in the state. His 100m PR of 10.61 (2.0) leads the class, ranks CA No. 9 overall for wl marks, and U.S. No. 2 wl. His 200m PR of 21.65 (1.1) is tied for CA No. 14 overall wl and U.S. No. 6 wl. Placed third in the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 final in the 100m at 10.80 (0.8).

Dev Doshi (Newbury Park/SS) - Distances

Emerged as the No. 2 combined 16/32 runner in the class with bests of 4:27.72 fo 1600m and 9:35.47 for 3200m.

Troy Garlick (Clovis/CS) - Shot Put

Limited to meets in May, still proved to be No. 2 in the CA class in the shot put, 48-2.50 with a 10-pounder.

Aiden Houston (Los Alamitos/SS) - Sprints

Fastest 400m in the class (50.74) and with 23.10 PR for 200m, is the top 2/4 combo sprinter in the class (1:13.84). 

Zack Lewis (Pacifica Garden Grove/SS) - Throws

Shot put PR of 48-4 at to win the freshman division at the Orange County Championships is the best of the class.

Hagop Marmarian (Marshall Fundamental/SS) - Throws

CIF-Southern Section Division 3 Preliminaries qualifier in both throws. Had PRs of 45-2.50 and 120-10. 

Jaden McKee (King/SS) - Pole Vault

PR of 13-6 is tied for the class lead and equal to U.S. No. 22. Had five meets with clearances of at least 13-0. 

Grant Morgenfeld (Palo Alto/CC) - Distances

Leaves the outdoor season as the No. 3 distance runner in the class based on 4:25.34/9:40.26 combination. 

John Mueller (Loyola/SS) - Hurdles

Ran 300mH PR of 40.69 for U.S. No. 23. Coupled with 16.82 PR for 110mH, he is the No. 2 combo hurdler in the class based on 57.51 total time. 

Ifeoluwaleyi Orekoya (Oak Park/SS) - Sprints

No. 2 200m/400m combined sprinter in the class with bests of 22.82 and 51.06 (1:13.88 total). Qualified for the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 Prelims in both spints. 

Jacob Pruitt (Rancho Cotate/NC) - Sprints/Jumps

Football player had just one track meet on record but he certainly made it count as he blew up at the Redwood Empire Meet, running 11.11 (-0.2) for 100m, 22.27 (0.9) for 200m, and long jumping 20-8.5 (-1.7). Three events. Three golds. His sprint combined time of 33.38 ranks second only to Farrell.

Xai Ricks (Long Beach Poly/SS) - Distance

Top combined 400/800 runner in the class. Fastest 800m in the class, dropped 1:59.22 for fourth at the Moore League Finals. Time ranks U.S. No. 33. His 51.45 ranks CA No. 5 in the class for 400m.  

Derek Smith (Buchanan/CS) - Throws

Leads the class with a discus throw best of 152-7 for third at the CIF-Central Section North Area Regional. U.S. No. 11. Coupled that with a 46-2 shot put (10-lb) lifts him to the top of the class with a 198-9 combined distances.

Carter Spradling (Clovis East/CS) - Distances

Top long-distance runner in the class this spring. He ran CA 2024-leading times of 4:22.83 for 1600m (U.S. No. 14) and 9:31.20 for 3200m (U.S. No. 21). His eight-lap PR placed fifth at CIF-Central Section Masters.

Justin Reichenberg (Mission Bay/SD) - Jumps

Triple jump best of 42-2 (1.5) placed sixth at the CIF-SDS Open Championships and slots U.S. No. 16 wl. Placed third in the triple jump at the CIF-SDS Division 3 finals with a best of 41-9.50 (0.5). Ranks second in the class as a combined horizontal jumper. 

Cade Sommers (Westlake/SS) - Pole Vault

Sister Paige is the girls national record holder. Cade's best of 13-6 leads the class. He hit his PR four times this spring. U.S. No. 22 tie.
