2019 STATE MEET - BOYS 100m FINAL
San Diego Madison sprinter Kenan Christon ended the 2019 season sweeping the 100- and 200-meter
dashes in each of his final nine races, including the CIF-San Diego Section Trials and Finals, and the CIF-State Championship Prelims and Finals.
Along the way he posted PRs at the San Diego Section Trials of 10.26 wind-aided for 100m and 20.55wl for 200m. The latter a SDS record and No. 5 all-time in CA history.
At the State Meet, his 10.30wl (1.2) to win the title equalled the meet record of another San Diego product, Riley Washington (Southwest HS) set in 1992. It also equalled the fifth fastest WL mark in state history. (His 10.26 (2.6) equalled the 10th fastest all-conditions 100m in state history.)
In the deuce, Christon peaked at that 20.55 (1.9) but the falloff from SDS Finals to State Pre to State Finals was slight at 20.65, 20.67 and 20.69w (2.5), which was still fast enough by .30 to cross before runner-up Cameron Reynolds (Clayton Valley/NC) and complete the State Meet sprint sweep.
While completing the 1-2 double at the State Meet is impressive, it's far from rare. Christon is the 22nd boy to win both races at State since 1960. He joined David Russell (Patrick Henry, 1977) and Jimmy Wilson (San Diego HS, 1929) as the only boys from the SDS to pull it off.
