It was June 2, 2018 when the Denner twins nearly won a CIF-State Track and Field Championship team title by themselves. 

These two senior distance runners from Oak Ridge High (SJ), in the Sierra Nevada foothills east of Sacramento, pulled off an unforgettable double in the 1600m and 3200m that Saturday night at Buchanan High in Clovis.

First, the girls placed first and fourth, respectively, in the 1600m, with Maddy Denner taking the title and Elena Denner placing fourth. Later that night, in the penultimate event on the track, Elena Denner ran off with the 3200m title with Maddy crossing next.

With that 1-2 finish in the 3200m, Oak Ridge took over first place in the team competition with one event left on the track. Oak Ridge led with 33 points.
