This article highlights the results of second-round dual as part of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Meet Tournament. Virtual meets are scored based solely on 2020 results using the standard dual meet scoring points format of 5-3-1 for individuals and 5-0 for relays. Athletes are scored in no more than four events (although the program that processes the meet scores does not have access to individuals in a relay). Teams are limited to three athletes per event. Stay with us for the entire tournament to see which boys and girls teams reign supreme in this virtual meet format.
No. 6 Chaminade (SS) vs. No. 11 Loyola (SS)
When the name of the game is depth across multiple events, you have to throw the seeding out the window. Again, an abundance of depth has led to another seeding-based upset as No. 11 Loyola dominated the distance, jumps and sprints to eliminated No. 6 Chaminade from the second-round of the boys bracket of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Dual Meet Tournament.
A 78-11 advantage across those three event categories is all that mattered in this one.
Although jump Xayvion Perkins won the long jump, 300m hurdles and 110m hurdles for Chaminade, there was little else to celebrate for the college prep school from West Hills. Perkins' dominance in those three events should come as no surprise. His 38.50 leads the state in the 300mH (U.S. No. 25), he ranks CA No. 9 in the 110mH (14.95/0.8) and he's top-20 in CA in the long jump.
The success for Los Angeles-based Loyola was led by four state-ranked athletes whose points in the 5-3-1 scoring format are key to the Cubs' continuation in this virtual competition.
Junior sprinter Ceyair Wright ranks CA No. 7 for 100m (10.92/0.0) and CA No. 13 for 200m (22.29/0.0). Another junior, Arjun Vadgama ranks CA No. 24 for 800m (1:58.21). Senior Evan Cantrell slots CA No. 16 for 300mH (40.26), and senior Anthony Stone is No. 9 in the 1600m (4:19.10). That quartet accounted for 24 of Loyola's points.
