Bellarmine boys establish new team time record at WCAL Final

Belmont, CA-The Bellarmine boys entered this season as one of the top ranked teams in California. We have ranked them as high as 2nd in Division I in our weekly state divisional rankings trailing only the top-ranked team in the nation, Great Oak.

The Bells have been impressive throughout this season including a 2nd place finish at the Mt. SAC Invitational Sweepstakes team race.

Yesterday at the WCAL final, the Bellarmine varsity boys made quite a statement establishing a new team time record on the historic Crystal Springs course which dates back to 1973. Their team time of 76:10 surpassed the 76:15.4 team time established by the 1985 Jesuit team at the Crystal Springs Invitational.

For perspective, that Jesuit team was led by the Mastalir twins (Mark and Eric) who both won state track titles as seniors. They had PRs of 4:04.15/8:51.99 (Mark) and 4:04.23/8:44.95 (Eric). Their 3rd man was Paul Thomas who sported PRs of 4:08.50 and 8:53.98 in high school. That trio also set a still-standing California DMR record on the track of 9:56.3

Bellarmine's top 7 also happen to be all juniors and will be pursuing their 7th straight CCS Division I title on November 16th. Bellarmine coach, Patrick McCrystle is a 1982 Jesuit grad who was also coached by legendary coach, Walt Lange.
