2019 MILESPLITCA GIRLS ALL-STATE FIRST TEAM

The 2019 MileSplitCA girls track and field first team is comprised of 25 members, 12 state champions, two double champions, two who defended titles from 2018 and two others who won titles in in 2019 in different events than they won in 2018. There are 11 members of our first team who won two medals (top-six finish) at the State Championships and another who won three!
The team is displayed by event groups and listed alphabetically under each event group header.
SPRINTS

SHELBY DANIELE | Clovis Buchanan/CS/Sr. | 100/200/Relay | Daniele won the 200 meter title at the State Meet, running a PR of 23.73 (1.6). She also reached the final of the 100m and scored for her team, placing seventh (11.80/1.6), adding to Buchanan's team championship total. Daniele ran second leg on the 4x100 relay that reached the State final and placed second (46.75). Her 100m best of 11.80 (1.6) ranks CA No. 8 for wind-legal times, and her 200m best of 23.73 (1.6) ranks CA No. 2 overall and tied for U.S. No. 8 in the class wind-legal. Daniele won both the 100m (11.82/1.0) and 200m (24.36/-0.4) at Central Section Masters. MileSplitCA All-Senior first team.
JAZMYNE FROST | Gardena Serra/SS/Sr. | 100/200 | For the second year in a row, Frost won medals in the two short sprints. She placed second in the 200 (23.83/1.6) and third in the 100 (11.64/1.6). Frost, headed to USC, won the 100m (11.8) for Southern Section Division 4 and placed second at SS Masters in the 100m (11.90) and fourth in the 200m (24.37). Her season best in the 100m of 11.60 (1.6) ranks CA No. 3 and her SB for 200m of 23.83 (1.6) ranks CA No. 4. MileSplitCA All-Senior first team.
SAUNDRIA MARTIN | Long Beach Poly/SS/Sr. | 100/200/Relays | Martin scored big for the Jackrabbits in both short sprints and both relays, leaving the State Championships with four medals. She placed fourth in the 200 (23.94/1.6) and fifth in the 100 (11.76/1.6), anchored the 4x400 relay to the State title (3:46.23) and ran second leg on the 4x100 relay that reached the State final and placed third (47.25). Martin, headed to UCLA, won the 200m title (24.03/-0.5) at Southern Section Masters and placed third in the 100m (11.93/0.5). MileSplitCA All-Senior first team.
DE'ANNA NOWLING | Calabasas/SS/Sr. | 100/200 | Nowling won the State title in the 100m for the second year in a row. She ran 11.55 (1.6) while fending off a balky hamstring injury that forced her to dial it back during the 200m final, where she placed fifth (23.98/1.6). Despite the injury, it was only the second time all season she ran sub-24. In the 100m, Nowling won 10 races and went undefeated in non-prelims. Her list of victories includes Texas Relays, Arcadia Invitational, Southern Section Division 2 and SS Masters. In the 200m, she won at Arcadia (SB 23.64), SS D2 and placed second at SS Masters. Nowling anchored the Calabasas 4x100 relay team that ran 45.95 for CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 15. But that relay was DQed at league finals and was not able to run at State. Nowling is headed to the University of Miami (Fla.). MileSplitCA All-Senior first team.
CHINYERE OKORO | Pleasanton Amador Valley/NC/Sr. | 100/200 | Okoro placed second in the 100m (11.60/1.6) and third in the 200m (23.86/1.6) at the State Meet. She won 13 of her 100m races and 10 of her 200m races, including North Coast Section Meet of Champions where she won the 100m in 11.65 (1.7) and the 200m in 24.42 (-1.1). Her 100m PR of 11.56 (1.1) from State Prelims ranks CA No. 2 and her 200m PR 23.82 (0.7), also from State Prelims, ranks CA No. 3. MileSplitCA All-Senior first team.
SAMARRA MONRROY | Long Beach Millikan/SS/Fr. | 400 | Monrroy is the Southern Section Masters Meet champion at 400m and SS-Division 1 and State Meet runner-up. She ran her PR of 54.16 to win the SS Masters title and followed that with a 54.64 for second at State Prelims and 54.25 for second in the State Final. She went sub-55 in her last five races. Monrroy's PR ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 5 in the class, and CA No. 2 regardless of class. MileSplitCA All-Freshman first team.
KATRIINA WRIGHT | San Diego University City/SD/So. | 400 | Wright is the State Meet champion in the 400m, running the fastest time in the in the state regardless of class (53.93). That time ranks U.S. No. 4 in the class and U.S. No. 24 regardless of class. Wright won the 400m in 13 of 14 meets this season. She avenged her only loss -- to St. Bernard (SS) senior Sydney Bentley at the Willie Banks Invitational -- in the State Final. KRISTIN FAHY | Carlsbad La Costa Canyon/SD/Sr. | 3200 | Fahy won the State 3200 title, breaking her own San Diego Section record in the process with a PR time of 10:11.38 (CA No. 23 all-time). Fahy, headed to Stanford, ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 9 for 3200 and No. 7 for 1600 (4:48.34). Her 4:49.98 mile to win at APU Distance Meet of Champions ranks CA No. 4. Fahy won seven of eight 3200 races and placed fourth at Arcadia with a then-PR and SDS record 10:15.80. She is a three-time SDS champion at 3200 and three-time State Meet participant, placing fourth as a junior and 10th as a sophomore. MileSplitCA All-Senior first team.
MEAGEN LOWE | Clovis Buchanan/SS/Sr. | 1600/3200 | Lowe placed second at State in the 1600 with a PR of 4:43.61 and third in the 3200 (10:18.87) in helping Buchanan to the girls team title. Her 1600 PR ranks CA No. 2, U.S. No. 7 and CA No. 28 all-time. Lowe, headed to Oregon State, also ranks CA No. 2 and U.S. No. 11 for 3200 (10:12.78) and CA No. 9 in the class for 800 (2:12.59). Lowe won both long distance races at Central Section Masters, winning the 1600 in 4:50.80 and the 3200 in 10:29.65. Her double at the State Meet was selected as the MileSplitCA Girls Track Performance of the Year. where she ran a CA No. 1 time of 4:42.58. That time ranks U.S. No. 1 in the class and U.S. No. 5 overall. Her PR of 2:11.66 for 800 ranks CA No. 4 in the class. Duarte is the Southern Section Division 1 champion for 800 (2:11.66) and 1600 (4:50.35). She won nine consecutive 800m races before placing 11th at Southern Section Masters despite running 2:14.44, the third-fastest time on her resume. She won 10 of 12 1600m races. The only non-victories were SS Masters, where she placed third (4:50.46) and State Prelims, where she ran 4:51.59 for fifth among qualifiers. Ran 4:48.56 PR for the mile at the Mt. SAC Relays, the No. 4 time in the U.S. in the class. She placed third in the 1600m at the State Final as a freshman. MileSplitCA All-Sophomore first team.
AUDREY SUAREZ | Pasadena Mayfield/SS/So. | 800/1600 | Suarez medaled in the 1600m at the State Meet for the second consecutive year, placing third with a personal-best time of 4:45.00. That time ranks CA No. 2 in the class, CA No. 3 regardless of class, U.S. No. 3 in the class and U.S. No. 9 regardless of class. Suarez ran her 800m PR of 2:11.16 to win the Southern Section Division 4 title. That time ranks CA No. 2 in the class and No. 7 overall. It's also tied for U.S. No. 14 in the class. She placed second in the 1600m at the Southern Section Division 4 Finals (4:49.24) but rebounded the following week to win the SS Masters Meet title in what was at the moment a PR time of 4:45.04. champion for 800m, winning with a 2:08.78 PR that ranks CA No. 1 overall and U.S. No. 7 in the class. She ran her 1600m PR of 4:59.38 (CA No. 9) at Dublin Distance Fiesta. She won five of seven 800m races this spring, including the North Coast Section Redwood Empire Area title (for the second year in a row) and NCS Masters title, running a then-lifetime best 2:13.39 despite stopping briefly with intention to help a fallen competitor before finishing. That spontaneous act of sportsmanship earned her CIF-State 'Pursuing Victory With Honor' acknowledgment at the State Meet Finals. MileSplitCA All-Sophomore first team.

CORIE SMITH | Clovis Buchanan/CS/Jr. | 1600/3200 | Smith placed second at the State Meet in the 3200 meters with a four-plus-second personal best time of 10:17.39 in helping Buchanan to the girls team title. Her runner-up time at State ranks CA No. 1 in the class and U.S. No. 6 in the class. She placed second in the Central Section Masters for 3200 (10:30.42). Her 1600m PR of 4:58.27 ranks CA No. 5 in the class. Smith persevered through a health setback during the season to run the 3200 eight times, placing no less than second in seven of those. She placed sixth at Arcadia in 10:22.63, which was just off her previous PR of 10:21.51 set as a sophomore also at Arcadia and also for sixth place. MileSplitCA All-Junior first team.
CHARLOTTE TOMKINSON | Menlo School/CC/Jr. | 800 | Tomkinson placed second at the State Meet in the 800 (2:09.41). She won the Central Coast Section championship in the 800 (2:13.69) and placed third in the 400 (57.35). She also won the CCS title as a sophomore (2:11.01). Tomkinson won the 800 at the Dublin Distance Fiesta in 2:10.61, a time that stood as CA No. 1 until the State Meet Final. Her 800 PR ranks U.S. No. 14 in the class. RACHEL GLENN | Long Beach Wilson/SS/Jr. | 100H/300H/Relay/High Jump | Glenn won the State Meet 
title in the 300 hurdles (41.71), missed making the final in the 100 hurdles by .05, placed second in the high jump (5-07) a year after winning the title, and earned a fourth-place medal on Wilson's 4x400 relay team (3:49.84). So, three medals and one near-miss for a shot at a fourth. At Southern Section Masters, Glenn won the 300 hurdles (41.01), won the high jump (5-08), placed third in the 100 hurdles (14.32/1.0), and fourth with the 4x400 relay team (3:45.98). Her 55.45 PR for 400m ranks CA No. 5 in the class. Glenn's 41.01 in the 300 hurdles from Masters ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 4 overall and ranks CA No. 17 all time. MileSplitCA All-Junior first team.

TAYLOR SHORTER | Norco/SS/Jr. | 100H/300H | Shorter placed second at the State Meet in the 300 hurdles (42.06) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (14.07/2.9). Her 300H time ranks CA No. 2 and U.S. No. 7 in the class. At Southern Section Masters, she placed second in the 100s (14.23/1.0) and sixth in the 300s (44.26). Shorter won eight 100 hurdles races during the season, including Mt. Carmel Invitational (14.21), the seeded division at Arcadia (13.92/0.6) and the SS Division 2 title (14.16). In the 300s, she won five races and placed second at the Mt. SAC Relays (44.58) and second at Mt. Carmel (43.59), breaking 43 for the first time while placing second to Rachel Glenn, whom she had defeated earlier in the 100 hurdles that day. MileSplitCA All-Junior first team.JUMPS

ELIZABETH FUNK | Clovis West/CS/Sr. | Pole Vault | Funk equalled the No. 3 pole vault in state history when she cleared 13-09 at TRAC championships on May 2. That is the fourth-highest jump among high school girls in the U.S. this season. At the time of her clearance, Funk was the 29th girl in U.S. HS history to pole vault at least 13-09. Funk, headed to San Diego State, went on to win the Central Section Masters title (12-00) and placed fifth at State (12-08). MileSplitCA All-Senior first team.ALYSAH HICKEY | Coronado/SD/Sr. | High Jump/Long Jump | Hickey won the State high jump title (5-08) 
and placed third in the long jump (19-10.50/2.2). She went undefeated in 11 high jump meets, including wins at the Arcadia Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays for the second year in a row, and San Diego Section Division 2 for the third year in row. Hickey, headed to Oregon, cleared a PR of 5-10.50 at the season-opening UC Track Classic, which ranks CA No. 1 and tied for U.S. No. 7 in the class. In the long jump, where she was the State champion as a junior, she won 10 meets including the SDS D2 for the second year in row. She hit her PR of 20-09 (2.8) at the UC Track Classic and also exceeded 20 feet to win at Mt. SAC (20-01/1.4) and at league finals (20-01.50). ASHLEY CALLAHAN | Rancho Bernardo/SD/So. | Pole Vault | Callahan is the State Meet champion in the pole vault with a best of 13-03. She jumped her PR of 13-06 to win the Mt. SAC Relays. That mark is equal to No. 2 in CA, regardless of class, and tied for No. 1 CA in the class. That clearance is tied for U.S. No. 7 regardless of class and No. 3 U.S. for sophomore girls. Callahan had the top clearance in 13 meets this season, including at the San Diego Section Final. She improved year over year by 1 foot, 7 inches. MileSplitCA All-Sophomore first team.
CAELYN HARRIS | Upland/SS/Fr. | Long Jump/Hurdles | Harris won the State Meet long jump title with a PR 20-08.50 (1.3). That mark is U.S. No. 1 in the class and No. 1 nationally regardless of class for wind-legal jumps. She won the long jump in 13 of 15 meets, five of those with jumps beyond 20 feet, including 20-05.25 to win the CIF-SS Masters title. She placed fifth in the 100 hurdles at the Southern Section Division 1 finals (15.39) and had a wind-aided PR of 14.72 at league prelims. MileSplitCA All-Freshman first team.PAIGE SOMMERS | Westlake Village Westlake/SS/So. | High Jump/Pole Vault | Sommers placed second in

That mark is equal to No. 2 in CA regardless of class, tied for No. 1 CA in the class, tied for U.S. No. 7 regardless of class and equal to No. 3 U.S. for sophomore girls. She has twice medaled at the State Meet in the pole vault and is a two-time Southern Section Masters Meet and Division 2 champion. In the high jump, Sommers cleared her PR of 5-06 to win the Southern Section Division 3 title. She cleared 5-04 at Masters to earn a trip to State in this event, too. FAITH BENDER | Bakersfield Liberty/CS/So. | Discus Throw/Shot Put | Bender ranks No. 1 U.S. in the sophomore class in both throws. In the discus, where she threw her PR of 168-06 for second place at the State Meet. Bender ranks No. 2 in the U.S. among returners and No. 3 U.S. regardless of class. In the shot, where she set a PR of 47-04.75 to win the Central Section Masters title, Bender ranks U.S. No. 4 among returners and U.S. No. 13 overall. She placed fifth at State in the shot put (43-08.75). In two seasons, she has reached four finals at State in the throws and won three medals. Budwig's discus throw ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 2. Her shot put PR ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No. 3. Her discus PR from the 2018 State Meet Prelims of 174-02 ranks 16th in state history. Her shot put PR ranks 24th in state history. Budwig, headed to Auburn, is a four-time Central Section Masters champion and State Meet medalist in the discus throw. NATALIE RAMIREZ | Stevenson Ranch West Ranch/SS/Sr. | Discus Throw/Shot Put | Ramirez placed third at State in the discus throw (159-00) and fourth in the shot put (44-00.50). Ramirez, headed to UCLA, swept the throws at Southern Section Masters, winning the discus with a best of 153-07 and the shot at 44-11.25. She has PRs of 163-02 in the discus and 47-09.75 in the shot.
