MileSplitCA Awards: Boys Individual Performance of the Year

We've reached the final stage of our 2018 Track & Field season wrap-up: the MileSplitCA Awards! Now that the All-State Teams are finished (overall girls published Saturday and boys published Monday), we would like to recognize the people and moments that stood out the most even when compared with other elites - in other words, the athletes, coaches, and performances that made 2018 truly special! Now underway, we are recognizing the following:

Today we will look at the top 5 boys' performances of the 2018 spring season, in our opinion. I continue to be struck by how many of the top performances this season were from field-event athletes in the Class of 2018 - what a group! Jumpers alone (counting pole vault) represent four of the top 7 of the spring's best single-day efforts that we identified. With those 7 worthy entrants, it was harder to narrow this list down to a Top 5 than it was on the girls' side. As we have throughout the wrap-up, we gave the benefit of the doubt to athletes that had multiple events on the same day while performing at the highest level. Even then, we faced the prospect of leaving out either a US #1 single-event performance, or the state leader in two events! That's what you call a deep pool of candidates.

Flip through the slides to see first the Honorable Mention performances, and then our Top 5. If you think we missed something or made a mistake, comment below or hit us up on Twitter!
