The MileSplitCA Super 17 All-State Teams are subjective selections with strong consideration given to CIF-State Meet finals qualification (3200 excluded), top placing at the section finals level, season-long consistency at a high level, and versatility. Top marks within the class is a consideration but not a guarantee of making this list.
How deep is this group of senior girls?
This class of ladies accounted for the following:
- 10 - CA-leading marks
- 10 - Double-medalists at State
- 9 - Who accounted for 10 of the 16 State Meet titles
- 8 - State Meet runners-up
- 8 - Events at State where the top two were seniors
- 6 - State Meet silver medalists
- 4 - Events at State were senior girls went 1-2-3
- 1 - US-leading mark
- 1 - Event at State where seniors accounted for a 1-6 medals sweep
- 1 - The State Meet's only double champion, Tierra Robinson-Jones
How deep is this group?
Only State Meet champions were guaranteed of making the first team. Girls who crushed it all year but may not have had their best day(s) in Clovis on the first weekend of June were given strong consideration for their overall resume. And that pushed not only State medalists to the second team, but also State runners-up to the second team. Injury, illness and mishap took out some of our top senior girls athletes at various stages of the season. That happens. That's track & field.
While it is a survival of the fittest to win a medal at the CA State Meet, overall body of work is huge! Versatility is huge! High-level consistency over the long and grueling season is huge!
It was difficult selecting just 17 for the first team out of more whose body of work warrants such inclusion. We'd love to be able to look at the photo finish to determine the 100th-of-a-second difference to help us with these decisions. Or, perhaps, arbitrarily decide to go against the guidelines and declare a tie.
But no. We're sticking to the rules.
We locked in on a Super 17 as our teams for All-State selection and that's what we're going with. Painful as it may be. But that's our sport.
Congratulations to all of the top-17s and the top-34s from this senior group whose amazing performances unquestionably warranted inclusion here.
On the following pages, please find first and second teams, plus an honorable mention list of MileSplit All-State Senior Girls.
Rankings note: Unlike the previous non-senior all-state teams, rankings references in comments for seniors are considered overall (regardless of class) for CA and US unless specified that it is a class-specific ranking.
This is the seventh installment of a 10-part series leading up to the overall MileSplitCA All-State teams.
