OVERVIEW
The Central Coast Section is Jan Brady when it's compared to the other nine sections in California. Hopefully, you are all keeping up with my Brady Bunch reference so let's continue. It's not quite Marcia (Southern Section) and definitely not Bobby and Cindy (San Francisco and Oakland). Despite its middle child complex, the section once again did quite well against it's more popular siblings.
Serra HS won their 2nd team title in recent years once again surpassing fellow league and section powerhouse Bellarmine. Silver Creek led by their two outstanding multi athletes Arianna Fisher and Jazlynn Shearer won the girls title.
Individuals of note included:
Senior Mari Friedman (Santa Cruz) had the fastest times in the section in three distance events, 800 (2:09.58), 1600 (4:47.89) and 3200 (10:28.94). She attempted a very challenging quad at the CCS finals and qualified to state in the 1600 and 800. At the state meet, Friedman finished in 4th place with a season best to record another podium finish.
Senior Robert Miranda (Menlo) finished in 3rd place in the 3200 at the CCS Finals. He recorded a personal best at the state meet which ended up being the fastest time for any CCS runner (9:07.57). He also ran the fastest 1600 of any CCS runner at 4:12.48.
