2017 Girls Pre-Season Top 10 California XC Runners

#1 Claudia Lane, Malibu (SS)

Claudia Lane (photo above courtesy of Kirby Lee) had a spectacular sophomore cross country season (perhaps one of the all-time best for a CA sophomore) that concluded with a national Footlocker championship on the Balboa Park course in San Diego. Along the way, Lane also recorded a near undefeated season with her lone loss to Brie Oakley at the Woodbridge Invitational. Her hard charging style recorded multiple meet records and the only thing missing by the end of the season was a rematch with Oakley at one of the post season meets. During track, Lane was equally as dominant with a best of 4:47.73 mile at the Stanford Invitational and one of the best duels of the season with Oakley at the Arcadia Invitational which Lane won with a time of 9:57.52. This time we did get a rematch at the Brooks PR meet but Oakley got the best of Lane with the fastest outdoor 2 mile in history at 9:51.35. Lane finished in 2nd at 10:01.18 and will be back this fall to defend the multiple titles she won throughout the 2016-2017 school year.
